N Korea boasts success in nuclear fusion

news.ninemsn.com.au

North Korea says it has successfully carried out a nuclear fusion reaction in what it called a breakthrough towards developing new energy sources.

The report in Rodong Sinmun, newspaper of the ruling communist party, made no mention of using the claimed new technology for the North's atomic weapons program.

Nuclear fusion reactions can be employed to make hydrogen bombs.

Wow. What an accomplishment by such a backward, despot-ruled totalitarian rogue state, testing out its nuke technology while the bulk of North Koreans live in dire tyranny, hunger and penury.

The more powerful nations have mastered nuclear fusion years ago.

Now the DPRK wants the H-bomb. What for? To nuke Seoul, Tokyo, Anchorage, Honolulu or any U.S. Pacific coast city, if they could mate it to a Taepodong 1 or 2 ICBM.

No one has openly mastered fusion as of yet.
The DPRK is full of it, and its just for their beloved leader, Kim Sun Ill's, celebration. Boasting, nonsense that hasn't happened. That is all.

You're probably right about the fact that they're full of crap but there's always a chance they're not, necessity is the mother of invention and fusion reactions would be an awful lot easier to fuel than fission.

On a side line, is this cold fusion, I thought that was the grail, not just general fusion, I think that's relatively straightforward, isn't it?
