The world is a different place and modern day people wouldn't last too long in the wild.

Well, the truth is that the character of the American people is dramatically different. At the time of the Great Depression, the American people were tough, self-sufficient people who knew how to live off the land. Today, most Americans are weak, spoiled little children who will throw a temper tantrum whenever anyone tries to take their toys away. The character of the American people has been decaying for decades, and there is no way that the current crop of Americans has any chance of weathering a horrible economic depression the way Americans back in the 1930s did.

Preparing for the SHTF doesn't hurt!

I would have to agree with you 100% getting out there and experiencing nature is just great and getting used to it aswell can help you in a shtf scenario because you just might have to abandon your house and go live in the woods for awhile you never know ...

Yes preparing for bad times is smart not stupid . Like they say " hope for the best , prepare for the worst "

Also about the part about people now and back then ya i would have to say people now adays would have a hard time trying to survive without basic survival skills and most dont even wanna learn or dont care much at all about it ...

I wouldn't call ya nuts, if that were the fact everyone who frequents the survival thread would be bonkers.

It all depends on what kind of scenario you are planning for. Like another person said don't take anything that you can't carry on your back and with a woman in the picture you are going to have to be in shape because you are going to have to carry a majority of the gear. I have multiple "kits" for different possibilities. I have a "quick" bug out bag, a "long-term" bug out bag, a fortification plan, and an escape and evade plan.

If you are looking for suggestions for a possible bug out bag the biggest suggestions I can give you is blanket, very good first aid kit, change of clothes, something to boil water in, bag of dryer lint, magnessium fire starter, poncho, a couple spools of fishing line and multiple hooks, 6-12 MRE's for the days you don't get anything with the fishing line snare or from fishing, a couple of 2500 calorie rations for the same reason as above, sleeping bag, some form of soft cover such as a beanie, ball cap or boonie. I am sure I am leaving stuff out I will have to go through my BOB but that should get you started.

Like another person said, you pretty much have to be willing to go where no one else is. The best way to survive in an all out collapse, "Mad Max" scenario is to be invisible, out of sight out of mind.

If your friends think you guys are nutjobs then they should meet me it would make them see you and your wife as normal.
