A great idea "Tin Book".... My facebook account is mostly used by my wife for her games so I only go on there when I'm sharing important information for my family and friends to know. Another name idea "Black Box".

TinBook sounds like a very valid alternative.

FB? Hmmm!
I created an account when it ws mentioned in the mainstream media in Denmark. I had to create the account and log in to get to know the possibilities available. That ws the very first time and the last time I logged in to FB.

I refuse to participate on social networks that so freely disregard common sense when it comes to data-safety.

Back then I read in the terms that whatever I wrote, whatever I uploaded and the trail of whatever I looked at was the property of FB.
How can they suddenly own my pictures? How can they own my writings? My poems. My novels?

No. FB is a no-no for me, and I'm really happy that I don't have to live a life where it is important to keep profiling yourself and where happiness is measured in how many friends you have on FB.

Some of my family spend hours and hours every day to keep tabs on friends and update their own info.
What a waste.

Yeah cool!

Or like secrets agents and spies who are using 'Dead Drops' - a location used to pass items and information between eachother - you know, by the oak tree next to the lamppost with the black X on it in such-and-such a park somewhere.

Let's call it:

The Drop Box

Way cooler than the name: 'TinBook'! IMHO!

Beware if real agents are starting to use this new service though! - then it could get a bit complicated & tricky for ATS perhaps?

But I like the name!

I might be going against the grain, but I like the Facebook idea.

It would allow my friends to become aware of ATS in a way which may appeal to them and as I use Facebook fairly regularly I like the idea of being able to intergrate them in some way.

I always strictly control my privacy on Facebook and at the end of the day I don't post things which I don't want other people to know. I don't really care that adverts show up at the side saying "Joe Satriani Fan?" because I had listed Joe Satriani in my music favourites and it's not some huge secret.

I don't really want to go to the trouble of setting up an account on another social networking site which is geared towards people who are interested in conspiracy theories, mainly because I feel it would alienate my friends who I otherwise would want to encourage to visit ATS.

If you had already paid the developer for the Facebook thing, then why not go with it? Although I appreciate asking the opinions of users beforehand.

Would it cost more as just as much to develop this "Tin Book" site as you call it?

I'd use it. It'd be great to be able to reach out to aware people without some Facebook-surfing schlub from my high school running me down like the dog that I am.

I have a FB account, but are not obsessed about it and are not posting alot of personal stuff like many people do. And I only have people I know as friends there, unlike somebody who add people they have talked to once.

Anyway, I think a "ATS FB" sounds cool. I think I would join.

Bill,

I want to put in my 2 cents worth on this subject. You already have a page each member can use just like having a Facebook account.

Couldn't you make the Public Profile page similar to a Facebook page.

Maybe a combination of My Ats and Public Profile that could incorporate My Pictures,ATS video blogs anything that one can do with Facebook. There are a number of disparate places an individual has to go to,add pictures, change their profile, etc.

Just combine them into one face page that still allows us some privacy.

"tinbook" would be cool. But i do like Myspace better than facebook. Maybe a more myspace kinda profile instead. And of course there is security u have to worry about.
But yea, TinBook all the way.

Ha ha ha!

Seriously? a data mine for the data mine?

If all the black panthers and all the militia were/are infiltrated heck probably all the fundamentalist christian antigovt. type groups too.... and face book is an infiltrators data mine how can this and then the hybrid of the two be anything less than an infiltrators pubescent dream?

I deactivated my FB ages ago, partly due to the fact it is mostly used for gossips and nosey people where I am lol but also as I read that it reportedly has links to the CIA.

I find it very strange that you can't actually delete your facebook page though, does anyone know if you can?

I am a Facebook member as well as ATS member (obviously). The fist day Facebook enacted their new policy to give every ones information out, I disabled it instantly.
That being said, if you use the internet you need to be smart about it and realize EVERYTHING you do on the internet is recorded and saved. So, it should be no surprise that Facebook did that. If you want complete and total privacy, GET THE HELL OFF THE INTERNET!
As for me, I would happily join a "Conspiracy Book."

This thread has gotten so long that this is probably just a shout in the dark but......

I've had quite a few ideas re: this for a while now but never said anything.

Really, this is a good idea as long as you can still maintain your anonymity.

I say, use the profiles we have, let us keep the user names. Let us choose what information or which photographs we divulge. Allow our profiles to be a bit more customizable. Kind of like a myspace idea (but not) you know an area where we can link things we find funny or interesting or what have you. (sort of like a mini board for user profiles that we can use for writing, or accumulating research, or posting funny videos or what have you that don't belong on the main boards but we still would like to share and allow users to comment. )

Perhaps introduce a better way to browse profiles. You may not even need that since more personal content on friend's profiles would give people incentive to visit them more.

Do that, add an ATS Instant Messenger (that way people have an appropriate place for those little off topic bickerings or just general chit chat.). This may help with keeping people on topic with threads as they can just IM those little off topic comments.

Slap a T&C on it and whala we have social networking for ATS without all the extra crap.

Take it for what you will. Just my two cents

Facebook is boring. It's for people that like to talk about the weather...i already abandoned facebook. ATS is great. I would like to get more interaction with other members...chat room is usually empty. Whatever you owners/moderators want to do...you have a good track record.

I don't see why it can't be available for those who want it.
I personally wouldn't use it. Maybe because of my age demographic
and also because Facebook is kind of losing it's appeal. I rarely use it now.

Facebook is boring, I only have friends and family that I talk to regularly on there.

That said if FB is boring and you are saying the TIN... thing will resemble FB... would we want to use it?

If you integrate features that are cool, yes... but couldn't you find a way to attach ATS to it or sync databases so that it shows our posts and we can pull each others stuff on there or something? just an Idea.

So in conclusion... I would like this tinthing... but I wouldn't use it regularly, just when important topics surface and I want to see whats going on in the ATS community.

THX MUCH for asking, Bill,

1. I have a Face Book account. I very rarely use it. I very severely limit anything revealing thereon. Fewe of my even closer friends know I have it. I use it primarily to be able to view other accounts or sites and their presence on FB.

2. I'm not likely to use an ATS/FB feature. I think FB privacy stuff is horrendous--and I felt that way before this latest stuff came out. Even if the website was 1,000% kosher and helpful toward privacy, just the nature of the site and the way flawed humans use it makes it very vulnerable, imho.

3. Yes, I know nothing electronic has been safe from the WATCHERS for at least 45 years. The mass snooping has been going on AT LEAST that long.

4. I would MUCH PREFER being able to PING selected screen names to a post or a thread. And a bit easier to use private email function would be nice.

5. I would MUCH PREFER to be able to quickly check and see if I had any replies to any of my posts . . . as is soooo easy to do at

www.FREEREPUBLIC.COM...

and their comments page which lists all posts to and from the logged in user who's comments page it is.

Those features would be MUCH MORE USEFUL to me than a dozen Face Book connections with ATS.

Thanks again for asking.

I Have fb and don't have a problem with it, I'm not sure why people are so paranoid about it, unless they have something to hide.
Most of the app things can be hidden or ignored.

I would use a similar thing on ATS if you did it, but I would still keep fb as most of my family are "mundanes" and think my theories are beyond strange

I also agree with another poster that said incorporating a facebook type thing into the profile page would be good, having everything in one site suits me as having too many windows or tabs open tends to send my pc into meltdown

Good thinking guys, keep up the good work.
