Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, becomes emotional while thanking his volunteers and family after being rejected by delegates at the 2010 Utah GOP Convention on Saturday in Salt Lake City.

SALT LAKE CITY - Republican Sen. Bob Bennett was rejected Saturday by delegates at the Utah GOP convention in a stunning defeat for a once-popular three-term incumbent who fell victim to a growing conservative movement nationwide.

Bennett's failure to make it into Utah's GOP primary — let alone win his party's nomination — makes him the first congressional incumbent to be ousted this year and demonstrates the difficult challenges candidates are facing from the right in 2010.

"The political atmosphere obviously has been toxic and it's very clear that some of the votes that I have cast have added to the toxic environment," an emotional Bennett told reporters, choking back tears.

Bennett's endorsements by the National Rifle Association and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, did little to stave off anger toward the Washington establishment from delegates. "The bailout bothers me. That in and of itself is unforgivable in my opinion," said delegate Scott White, a 58-year-old general contractor from Taylorsville.

The signs continue to show: If you are in office now, regardless of the party afiliation, you in trouble. Hats off to the delgates. Sounds like they did their jobs and did what the people they represent wanted.

It is going to be a crazy political year come Nov 2010 and there is going to be a lot more tears flowing I think. Stay tuned.

One down 534 to go. Throw them all out and start over.

Keep it up folks. We are being heard over the sycophants!

Great work TEA Partiers!

www.foxnews.com...

The three-term senator was targeted by Tea Party activists and other groups for supporting the first traunch of TARP, or Troubled Assets Relief Program.

Just because you have a "R" by your name does not exempt you from the wrath of the TEA Party!

Bennett isn't the only Republican lawmaker in trouble as other moderate candidates across the country find themselves being abandoned by GOP voters in favor of those backed by Tea Party activists, such as with Senate races in Arizona, Kentucky and New Hampshire.

Good, throw out ALL incumbents regardless of party.... It may remove at least some of the corruption in congress, and any move in that direction is good.

US government badly needs an overhaul, and even a temporary fix will help.

Congress and ultimately the presidency needs real experienced (non political) fiscal conservatives, either independent, democrat or republican.

It can't happen soon enough.

This will be the first of many, if not all up for re-election.

I see Palin has been endorsing at least 3 people the last few days. It will be interesting to see how they fair (and anyone else she gets behind). If all the people she backs-wins, that will be the death sentence to the Dems (politially).

It would mean she is for real and the common people have woken up and they are P.O.ed!!!

C'mon, where are the Dem faithful?

I imagined them to be foaming at the mouth over the news. Or is it that they may be thinking that JUST MAYBE, the TPM and anti incumbent, anti corruption, anti big government is making moves they cannot stop.

Welcome to REAL change folks. The time is NOW.

This is fantastic news! As already stated, this is one down. Maybe if we get enough of the cronies out, then we can shorten Obama's entire regime's reign by a couple years also, and try to turn around some of the serious damage they are doing to the U.S. That'd be a joyous event indeed!

Yeah, quite a few incumbents will go....it's too bad that most of them will probably be replaced by CEO's or former Washington insiders....making it all pointless.

Just because they are voting for non incumbents doesn't mean we win anything.

And Sarah Palin is endorsing the CEO of HP for office.

Here is a quote by Palin:

"Carly is the Commonsense Conservative that California needs and our country could sure use in these trying times," Palin said in a release. "She's not a career politician. She's a businesswoman who has run a major corporation."

www.cbsnews.com...

More of the same...watch. We'll elect a bunch of f'n CEO's and former Washington lobbyists/insiders.

HP has outsourced job just like most every other huge frickin corporation that has sold out the American worker.

Mitt Romney has outsourced American jobs. No one should vote for that POS. Why can't we vote in some blue collar workers? We need people who are making 30-50k a year running for office....not more GD millionaires, billionaires, and CEO's.

What the HELL do I care what Palin says?

I investigate what people have said personally, not what talking points can be reiterated on differing blogs. If you are going to attack the HP CEO, which is who by the way-any idea, maybe you should actually give some information from that person and quotes from them.

This he said, she said crap is getting frelling tiring. Excuse me, maybe instead of being a pontificate of other's flatulent spewings, maybe a little information from the SOURCE would be nice.

Sorry, in my state, I know everyone that is behind freedom and quitting the Washington DC corruption agenda. Do you know yours?

Here are the Wisconsin reps in office now, who are yours?

Are you telling us that you don't pay taxes? If so....how do you get away with out being audited. However if you do pay taxes....you work for the government.

I work for the USFS and the DoD on a contractual basis from time to time. Great gig that allows me to enjoy my Life, Liberty and actually buy more property

However even if incumbents are thrown under the bus; I see little change. The ritual is established with the elites remaining in control regardless of what the people want. No one can get elected, even on a local level without the right connections.

I say this is a good start by the state of Utah. Throw them all out.
Clean the house out completely and start over. It really doesn't matter
what your party affiliation is, whether Republican, Democrat, or middle
of the road non-partisan like myself. The point is, get them out. If you are
a Democrat, more power to you. Just vote out whoever is in office and
give them their walking papers. If you are a Republican, more power to
you also. Vote these people out, whatever their age, and vote new
Republicans into office. Get rid of the entire pathetic, corrupt and lawless
bunch. It is time we Americans send a powerful message to the old ones,
and the new ones, that we will not stand for anyone ever again ruining
this country because of the immoral ones that run this country now.

Send the message, that if you do the same thing, you will also get your
pink slip the very next election. I think that if this horrible mess is finally
cleaned up, we will get some decent people to run this country once and
for all.

I would advise everyone of voting age to please, please get out and vote
regardless of party affiliation. Vote for Republican or Democrat. Just do
what your heart tells you and VOTE THEM OUT. Then maybe we really
can get across the aisle friendship and start making this country great
again.

And stop and think about all of these clowns who stand on stage and
tell us over and over and over, WHAT WE NEED. Well guess what
Washington? We the American people already know what we need and
have known for a long long time what we need. I will tell you one thing
that we do need, and that is no one telling us any more WHAT WE NEED !
I lost count of the times "What we need" was blathered out by the last
set of bafoons on stage. Especially the Presidential run. It got so boring
hearing this ridiculous term, I was ready to throw a brick at my TV.
I would have had to buy a new one, but it would have felt good doing that.

The time has long since passed to get people in Washington who care
about the public and understand what they are presently doing to all of
us.

Get this crap cleaned up. Get some backbone, some guts, toughen up
and quit whining about your $174,000 a year jobs with all the perks and
benefits. Get on the same health insurance that you guys have shoved
down our throat and see how you really like it. Get on the same Social
Security retirement benefits as the rest of us and see how tough it is to
scrape by with this meager monthly coffee money. You don't deserve
one penny raise while the rest of us get ZERO increase on Social
Security and ZERO increase in Veterans benefits this year, while you
get enough coffee money raise, that I could pay off some pretty large
bills with.

You get two terms in office and that is it. Just because you became
Senators and Congressmen/women, doesn't mean you get a fancy
gravy train for the rest of your life. This is a job. We hired you to do
a job, not to give you a high and mighty permanent positon of fleecing
the USA.

Remember, WE HIRED YOU. We DON"T WORK FOR YOU. We call the
shots for you guys. You don't tell us what to do and how to act or live
or exist with your condescending, egotistical, conceited and arrogant
attitudes. The next set of "leaders" better start figuring out a way to get
our jobs back in the states so we can put millions of people back to work.
I think everyone here at home finally realizes that we can get by with less
wages and benefits. Just get some jobs for these people and quit out
sourcing everything to China, India and elsewhere. I want to hear English
again. Get rid of this moronic NAFTA. Figure out a respectful immigration
program that actually works without leaving our borders as wide open
as a Mason jar. Let the immigrants come here, but get some ball$ and
put your foot down and say, "this is the way it will be" instead of having
each of our states pass their own laws and regulations.

Bring our troops home NOW. I don't want or give you the government,
any authorization whatsoever to spend another dime of my tax money
on killing people in countries that hate our guts and don't want this thing
called DEMOCRACY. They want what THEY want and leave them to
heck alone. Put thousands of our National Guard on the borders until
a genuine, bonified agreeable immigrant law can be worked out. After
all, they are NATIONAL GUARD, not INTERNATIONAL GUARD !!

I am NOT threatening our country in any way, shape or form, but if this
country doesn't get some people with real cahoonas to run the show,
I believe there will be some nasty blood in the streets beginning this year.

Maybe a BIG show will slap some people in the face and wake them up
to how the average American is really feeling. Can you guys get the hint?
This could be very big and dangerous for all if you don't get off your fat
butts and start giving back a little bit of what we have all given you people.

You are not untouchable. You guys better start looking for another job.
There will be a total cleaning out of you thugs starting real soon. Get
used to it.

Remember everyone, just get out and vote and let's get this ol' US of A
running again.

And you can come and kick my door in tonight if you wish. I can't stop
you from doing so. I am simply stating my feelings which are granted
under the Constition of the United States, or have you already trampled
and defecated on it so much that it can never be restored? I don't have a
long time to live anyway, as I am terminal, so come and snatch me away
to never be heard of again. I believe my God that I personally believe in
will welcome me home.

BYE

ANYONE up for re-election that has voted for the bailouts and the EVER EXPANDING federal government are my ENEMIES and I have put forth help to all of their adversaries.

And an election happened right after the bank bailout and many of those SAME people voted FOR it were voted right back into office.

---------------

The point I was making in my last post is that voting out an incumbent does not mean getting someone any better.

Corporate funding (and other special interests) of candidates will now be through the damn roof because of the Supreme court decision which allows them to promote/bash any candidate through ads (Which televison networks will love)....so know it will be up to voters to vote for the candidate who isn't being swayed by those forces.

And yes you should give a damn who Palin endorses because she is swaying a chunk of the voting block.

Here are the Wisconsin reps in office now, who are yours?

Yeah, you will now your reps and I may know mine...but MOST won't. I'm sure most of the people at the old folks home aren't doing loads of research on the frickin internet on their voting candidates....which by the way his a huge portion of the voting block.

How bout you, doing anything except repeating talking points

Oh, you mean campaign finance reform, auditing the fed, increasing tariffs....hell yes they are talking points. Everything is a frickin talking point. You are a blabbering talking point yourself.

While you may be researching who you will vote for as I will...it doesn't change the fact that most won't and will still go by the frickin party line.

I'm sorry you won't accept it but it's reality. I wish it wasn't so but it's true. Could it change by voting time? Maybe...but as of right now...NO. It's still more of the same.

It has to get really terrible before people wake the hell up.

Instead of spreading your crap about corporations only, how bout blaming the people with the power?

Who are the people that have the power? It's a revolving door of frickin lobbyists. Many of those running against incumbents are former politicians and/or lobbyists.

sorry to jump in here...

I don't get you End

If you haven't notice the actions of between big business have helped to shape this monster government you hate so much. Wether it be, gimping an oil rig to save on the bottom line or rapping the economy so the the FED comes into to mitigate market collapse. You don't get the socialimists very much do you? When business does unsavory crap, liberal marxist fascists maoists react, its is not rocket science.

Wrong or right, Washington would not have any political capital to pass such legislation if there was not a reason (although you may be ill-equipped to understand these reasons or justification;;; this is why it behoove you to get it). There is some small semblance of cause and effect in many cases. You are ignorant not to recognize this, recognize is not synonymous with embrace and you cannot get AIDS from listening
to someone...

Two: big business virtually indentures all ELECTED politicians thru
the funding of campaigns. This does not make the politicians in the right, this is the case, you use the word Fascism as a baseball bat for your positions and recognize such in this society, however you cannot even examine its most basic catalyst... why?

All these examinations would make you more knowledgeable, but its like you are
so stuck on speaking the word you can't be bothered with practicing the word. I have pointed out things that would help you establish a better understanding of your enemy and you ignore it, disregard it and are offended by it. Hell man, we established back in December that we WANT the exact same results, the same things. However, you can't be bothered with listening to a different perspective squarely because of the difference in theoretical approach.

In all this you might understand the hammering on business a bit more. In a practical way business pays their employees; AKA politicians; to execute their agenda, which is to serve the agenda of the business in return for the generous campaign support.
Business is not the people END, it is a function and a creation, it cannot starve, be beaten or jailed... Individuals can and do act as criminals thru business because their actions are obscured by the artifice, just like the government. Their power is the construct and the capital embodied in that construct, just like the government.

Business swaying the government, is a huge force in shaping the
government you hate. You fight a one front battle with the Marxist Scourge because you know one day these market forces will replace the bloated government pig you hate and become the basis of the freedom you desire. However in the current form I would suggest you reexamine your allies.

I can imagine one day in paradise, some electricity giant buys up your local water source bit by bit until they achieve complete source ownership. Then they stipulate in their legally binding contract, we only sell water and power in bundles - therefore you want any water you need to buy our electricity also. Hell maybe broadband and flood insurance will be included in next years contract also...

So have you been injured in this case and what force is at your disposal? What are you gonna do if you do not like the results of freedom? Kill the California office, the NOLA board of directors, the Wisconsin regional office or buy a cistern and practice rain dancing moves? Use your millions of dollars in a protracted legal battle and reference the constitution which does not account for annoyance with inflated utility gouging?
I really hope you would not try to challenge someone's right to to property or the freedom to the fruit that property creates.

I would piss on the logo at the California office myself, but thats just me...

I'm all for kicking out the incumbents. (That man looks so sad, though...) It's a move in the right direction. It may not change the landscape for a while, but it's a start.

Only problem:

He garnered just under 27 percent of the vote while businessman Tim Bridgewater had 37 percent and attorney Mike Lee got 36 percent.

So, he's being replaced by either a businessman or an attorney.
Not too bright, IMO.

I love SkepticOverlord's idea that incumbents not be allowed to campaign. That way they'd have to do a GREAT job to be voted in again. That would get them working for the people instead of their own pockets.

Oh, and the GOP HAS taken over the Tea Party.
Unfortunately, the new people that they're bringing in are likely to be worse. A businessman and a lawyer. Yay...

I don't have a problem with a business-man/woman running for office, as long as their business doesn't have a track record of screwing people over. The attorney, however... ugh.

This is a good first sign that people have had it with "politics as usual". I hope to see more of this in the future.
