Yep, I personally had a close encounter, and my parents did too.

Place - Twentynine Palms Marine Base.
Time - Summer of 1958.

what my folks saw: Large cigar shaped ship about two blocks in length. Flew slowly over officers quarters at about 500 feet. Both a red and blue lit objects left the ship and disappeared near a artillary test range. This was observed by over 100 military famlies at about 11pm. I was asleep and my folks did not want to scare me. My father was an officer and called someone to see if it was on radar - it was not. The ship slowly left the area before helicopters arrived to investigate.

My encounter: Also in 1958 but outside of base. While playing outside while my folks played bridge, I and some kids saw a large illuminated area appear near us. No beam was observed. No helicopters or planes heard. I remember looking up to see the source but I could see none that stood out from the stars. I was eight at the time. This event has haunted me for 51 years.
