A Lurker in a Burqa!

Hey... now there's an idea! I can even see that making a great scene in some Hollywood teen flick!

Awesome!

Ban the burqa and the head dress.

They are symbols of oppression and religious dominance.

There is nothing discriminating in banning a dress code that violates the cultural morals of a nation. This dress requirement that Muslim men force onto their women is oppression that violates western beliefs.

Yeah, they force it on the women, and this is well recorded, and a good example is how women have been forced back under the veil in Iran.

Ban sleeping because I'm gonna go to sleep, because I'm a Muslim therefore I'm forced to sleep, so I can wake up tomorrow and go to work..

Sleeping is the symbol of oppression because you have to wakeup the next freakin day.. zzz

Have a good night.

I'm not Australian, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if I where to wear a toilet seat on my head walking down the street in Australia I would probably get some funny looks but not arrested.

Personally, I think no government should have the right to determine what it's people wear. I don't care of it is considered oppressive attire.

I never stated my opinion on the matter.

merely pointing out the logical fallacy of calling someone a liar for making a personal observation.

This proves something I've known about Humans for a long time-You are all for freedom if it's something you are comfortable with. Freedom for all men and women? Of course not, they don't do what you do. Just a lot of raging hypocrites.

Freedom of religion should be just that-Freedom for all religious expression that does not harm others. You are not harmed by a woman wearing a veil. I'm quite sure I'll get flamed, but I don't care.

I am not Australian so I am curious about the laws of Australia concerning covering your face in public? And if there is a law, how long as it been on the books? Can anyone post this for discussion.

Because at the end of the day, Australia has laws in place that when people migrated to Australia agreed to abide by. And if they did not like the laws (if they did not fit with their religious beliefs), I'm not sure why they would chose to live there

I would never ever ever chose to live in the Middle East because I know of their laws and how they treat women. I would never move there (even if I would love to visit) and demand they change their way of life to fit MY way of life.

Tell that to the women who get spat on and harassed by Muslim men when they have to go through a Muslim section in Europe.

Tell that to the women who get raped for going out without an escort in the Muslim communities.

Tell that to the people blown up by terrorists who have hidden their bombs under a burqa.

Tell that to all the women killed by their brothers on the order of their fathers, and most likely the local Mullah, for dressing like a Western woman, and for "OMG", dating a Non-Muslim.

Tell that to the women who hide their bruised bodies under that burqa that are a result of their daily meetings.

Tell that to the twelve year old girls, married to their much older cousins or family benefactor, whose regular molestation is hidden behind the burqa.

We know these things go on, they are widely reported by numerous sources. We just don't know how wide spread these things are, because they are hidden behind the veil.

Religions should not be free to abuse, intimidate, control, dehumanize, and dominate the female half of our species.

This is not freedom.

A veil (hijab) and a burqa are entirely different things antonia. However, it could be argued that women are harmed by having to wear burqas... though many women would not admit to such things in fear of reprisal in their families and culture... primarily their husbands.

IMHO women who wear burqa's have been indoctrinated to do so. They have had their wills broken from a young age and just accept it as their lot in life.

I'll have a dig around for the appropriate laws.

In the meantime I think this video touches on what's being discussed here:

I don't think it's illegal to wear a mask here in Australia, although as seen above, it isn't advisable to do so...

This very thing has always baffled me GEL! If you don't like the lifestyle and values, why immigrate there? I know I (and most people I know) would not.

As per usual, with this kind of thread, it's a ridiculous argument about 'security' trumping the rights of the individual. Yeah, right... we should all be reminded how we should all live in fear every day of our lives.

Well, they used pretty much the same logic in Australia to disarm the general public didn't they? So there is a precedent for the government banning things in this way.

Why would muslims move to Australia even though the customs, etc. don't match?

Try this: Indonesia is getting pretty crowded and the muslims have plans for all your wide open spaces.

Think it can't happen? Well, isn't mohammed the most popular baby name for boys in London right now?

source

The Islamic name overtook traditional choices like Jack, Thomas and Daniel to become the number one name in the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the North West, as well as in the capital, in 2008.
The figures emerged in a detailed regional breakdown of figures published last week by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

I have to agree about the hypocrisy thing. I believe pretty much every person takes part in behaviour they would denounce others for doing.

That is the fact that most people will not admit. None of us are directly harmed when a woman decides to wear a burqa. Some people will say "it's a sign of oppression" to disguise the fact they don't think women should be forced to wear them.

The only thing you need to keep in mind is that it is illegal in many places in Australia to wear helmets, masks and other items that hide your face. This would mean that permitting women to wear the burqa in these areas would be allowing them to break the law. If they were successful in this bid, it would send the message that a religious minority has more rights than the majority. And there is the problem!

talk about Tyranny in a Western country when Tyranny is the norm in a lot of muslim countries where women have no rights and no voice in their male dominated and controlled world?

Let's talk about it shall we, I don't agree with that point..

See Western women might have the illusion of more rights, but we all know they are treated like sh1t, literally sh1t.. They are raped more, they are abused more, they are left by themselves more, to take care of the family and take care of money, hence tap and gap..

It is a dream, look at the reality on the ground..

Don't just say women this women that, look at the statistics..

Come to NEW ZEALAND.. Let me show you where old guys go to find 12 year old girls.. Well known facts around here, let me show you where you can find crack whores..

Let me introduce you to my neighbors.. Do you want to know what they get up to.. Yes I know, seen it all.. Talk about reality.. Yes if you lock yourself in your home and sit in your car, go to work, then come back home and lock yourself up again, surely you will not see reality..

I've seen girls get beaten up in the middle of the streets, some call the cops, some don't.. Huge problem..

I seen young girls being pimped on.. around shopping malls.. 20 bux for BJ.. Don't want to go any further, I'm already feeling sick..

Yes, let's talk about this then,

Quote
"See Western women might have the illusion of more rights, but we all know they are treated like sh1t, literally sh1t.. They are raped more, they are abused more, they are left by themselves more, to take care of the family and take care of money, hence tap and gap.. "....

and you know this how? You think "western women are treated like sh!t", get real, tell that to some poor woman in Pakistan or Afghanistan that has been married off by her father aged 12 to a 60 year old man who already has 3 wives! You don't know how lucky women are to be treated as equals in western society, in many muslim countries they are treated worse than animals and have no rights, You are talking sh!te

Statistics about what specifically... please tell,

Quote

Go to just about any islamic state, some are married by the age of 12, what's your point, If I knew where old men were preying on 12 year old's I'd be on the phone to the police pretty bloody sharp! Why the hell would I want to find crack whores, what is the relevance of a crack whore and pedophiles with a discussion about the Burka! Your arguments again, unfounded and pointless and way off topic!

Why would I want to know about your neighbors.... really this is just crap!

Quote
"I've seen girls get beaten up in the middle of the streets, some call the cops, some don't.. Huge problem..

Quote

Both of the above statements have no relevance whatsoever to wearing or not wearing a Burka......... what is your point?
.........you have no point

Sensitive issues, bah.

To start with, there is no national religion of Australia. Claiming that Muslims should adhere to Aussie rules because they are guests, or because "their home countries" are not reciprocally respectful, is a bad argument. They live in the AU, they were born there. They are Australian Muslims. Simple, no?

But then again, religion MUST update itself with the times. Take the Bible for example. There is some evil, vile stuff in there. Commanding parents to stone their children to death if they disobey. Cutting off the hands of women if they inappropriately touch a man. And several dozen more examples. Point being - there is NO christian on this planet who still adheres to the above acts, because culture has updated. Culture is so much more influential than a holy text, that even GOD HIMSELF commands the above acts, yet still, Christians not only do not commit them, they abhor such violence. (I hope)

So in the end, Muslims have no argument. Ignoring all the other aspects of Islam, and simply focusing on the dress of females, clearly it is a sexist and degrading formality. The whole point is because "men are animals and can't be trusted to control their lust" to paraphrase. Because of the lowly nature of men, all women have to wear a beekeeper suit.

I don't care that the God of Islam commands it. It's a horrible practice and nobody should support it, least of all Muslim women.

It's off topic but I KNOW if wouldn't happen. The Indonesians couldn't organize a crap fight in a sewerage farm. We kicked their butts in East Timor... Their army couldn't beat crap with a Mixmaster. That's why they beg to learn how to fight from our guys.

On the other hand. Australia has some of the finest soldiers in the world.
