After giving that jewelry a second look I have to say that if I saw somebody wearing a pendant like that my initial thoughts would be that the wearer was gay.

It's definitely not a normal thing for guy to be walking around with a spiral heart or triangle or purple butterfly around his neck. Hell, it's barely normal for a guy to be wearing anything other than a watch for adornment.

Interesting about the symbols, haven't seen any of that before. However, in regards to Pedobear. It's a joke from the chan sites. I highly doubt real pedophiles would use it as a mascot seeing as how quite a few college aged net denizens view it as a joke. Heck they sell t-shirts and stickers of the thing because it's supposed to be humorous. Do you have any sources for where legitimate pedophiles are using it as a symbol?

@ OP I bash you quite a lot for your opinion on other threads. But I commend your efforts on this thread S & F.

Only to add that sometimes common symols get "high-jacked" by groups.
(Rainbow, Swastika. 5 sided star etc.) Often times someone might display a symbol unaware of it's hidden/ new meaning. I recall that a guy wearing an earring on a certain side meant he was gay. I could never recall which side, so I assumed ANY guy with one earring was. Silly I know but I was much younger.

Regardless, I applaud your intention to bring attention to this issue.

I'm keeping control of my emotions right now, this is a very sensitive topic as you said. So I'll be a lady and keep quiet about how I feel about these scum bags and what they deserve.
This site is teaching me a lot about myself! Right now I'm going to educate myself with all that is on this thread and try to keep in check with my emotions.
ATS is such an incredible site! With so many emotional driven threads and posts lately, I'm realizing just how golden silence really is. (I caught myself going with the emotional fear driven flow, feeding off of others emotions and fears. I don't like traveling down that road anymore.
So I'm going to continue to be passionate about things but in the way of actions more then sitting comfortable and safe at home in front of my soapbox. It's time to get out there and make a difference through actions and education. It's the little things that can make lasting impacts too.

Maybe this stuff is new and for the internet crowd of peds.
I worked with pedophiles for 10yrs and none of them from 1995 to 2004 ever indicated there were ped signs. Some of them talked about the gay hankies in the back pocket and what the colors meant and the significance of which back pocket it was in...ie receiving or giving.(I bet that is really outdated)
Most peds I knew worked alone and there would be no real purpose to advertise to others when they were about to offend. But I imagine they would network when trying to get kiddy porn or those who are interested in NAMBLA. The guys I dealt with were clinically psychopaths and/or sociopaths..they don't like to share and they are loners.
I guess my point is...don't count on symbols to identify threats to our kids...chances are very likely that they have some connection to the family...if your child shows any signs of distress or any other type of behavior that you think is just a bit odd when going to a relatives or having a certain relative babysit, take heed.
For me, my kids know that if anyone tells them to keep a secret, or that they will hurt mommy or daddy if they tell, or mommy and daddy will be mad at them....my kids know that it will be the last threat that person makes. They also know if anyone tries to pick them up saying "your house is on fire and your parents asked me to come pick you up" they know what question to ask before yelling and running....
