Falklands oil firm Rockland claims discovery

news.bbc.co.uk

One of the oil and gas companies currently drilling off the coast of the Falkland Islands says it may have struck oil.

Rockhopper Exploration said that initial data collected from one well "indicated an oil discovery".

The find would be the first in North Falkland Basin, the area north of the islands currently being explored.

It seems that they have finally hit oil near the Falklands!
It was a bit odd how there was a massive amount of coverage as the rig was towed into place, but then as soon as it was there, that stopped.
Apparently, that initial well was 'disappointing'.
I wonder how the Argentinians will react? I doubt they will do much beyond mere words, especially with the threat of a nuclear sub still in the area.

This is huge news. The Argies are gunna be broadcasting 'Viva Malvinas' on every wavelength.

The share price of the company which is responsible for the find have rocketed 153% when the news was released.

Apparently it is high quality oil.

Argentina quite predictably are pretty annoyed and plan to 'address' the issue at a planned smmit between EU and South American leaders later this month.

I sincerely hope the EU supports our stance, on the other hand maybe it'll best if they don't then it may just prove the final straw and we would demand our resignation from that evil organisation.

As p4t said, they must be pretty annoyed they didn't accept our very generous offer which we made earlier in the year.

This seems to have slipped by relatively un-noticed.

Apparently the Falklands oil field is estimated to be at least as big as the North Sea Oil Fields.
