Refinery Explosion Rocks City's SE Side [San Antonio, TX]

SAN ANTONIO -- Fire crews were at the scene of a refinery explosion and fire late Wednesday morning on the city's Southeast Side.

The explosion happened at Age Refining at 7811 South Presa.

A spokesman for the company said, "a truck exploded as it was placed on a loading rack." The spokesman would not say if anyone was injured.

I am not sure whether this is a big oil refinery in Texas, but it would seem that OIL and OIL related companies are under some type of siege. Could these incidents we are seeing related to oil be the beginnings of a secret attack on the US? Step one in my mind would be to limit the fuel resources for any army or country.


What is going on with oil related businesses recently?!?

As AGE is a small refinery, we have the advantage of being able to change production runs at anytime. This agility allows us to swing production at the refinery almost as quickly as the market, which means we can maintain year round production while providing efficient and timely service to our customers.

AGE Refining has two processing facilities at our South Presa location: a 13,500 BPCD low-sulfur crude unit and a 1,500 BPD Solvent Distillation Unit. The individual units function as a whole and are all operated from a central crude room.

• Crude Unit - The crude unit is currently permitted to operate at 13,500 BPCD, with an average through-put of 13,500 BPD. The unit was designed to process Sweet South Texas condensate or a blend of South Texas Condensate and South Texas Light Sweet crude with a gravity of 40 - 53 APT and sulfur of less than .05 % wt.
  
  
• Solvent Distillation Unit - The Solvent Distillation Unit has five fractionating towers, which produce specialty fuels and solvents. The fractionators operate in a series fashion which allows close quality control these specialty cuts, as well as, customization of these solvent products.
  
  
• Main Office - Key members of our leadership team, engineering group, administrative and marketing personnel are all based out of this 4,000 sq. ft. main office.
  
  
• Lab - Our state-of-the-art laboratory is where our chief chemist tests all feedstock and finished streams to be sure they meet specifications for both the government and consumer products.
  
  
• Storage - The storage and distribution system of the refinery includes a tank farm of 162 tanks ranging in capacity from 40 to 10,000 barrels, two additive blend systems, a tank car loading facility and two transport loading systems.
  
  
• Elmendorf tank farm - Total capacity of the Elmendorf tank farm is 208,000 barrels, given AGE the ability to control both product and crude inventory, as well as blending operations.
  
  
• Rail facilities - The San Antonio refinery has full rail access and loading capabilities for product distribution and crude receiving. In fact, the majority of our specialty jet fuels are shipped via rail car to destinations throughout the United States.
  
  
• Drum warehouse - The refinery includes a drum warehouse for our drumming operations, scales and loading facilities. These are used for filling short term storage and production drums.
  
  
• General purpose warehouse - This 15,000 square foot building is used as a general warehouse, a truck shop, an employee recreation area and as general offices for our dispatch group. The warehouse facilities can easily accommodate pallets containing 55-gallon drums stacked three-high.

Seems as though someone is telling us something. It couldnt all be just a coincidence could it? All I can say is WOW!

Its a small 2 alarm fire.

I'll make an educated guess and say static electricity played a role in this.

Sounds like what could be an effective idea, terrorists strike our oil refineries, then Iran cuts off the flow off crude oil from the middle east.

If it actually was that, the terrs would strike multiple targets at once.

Well it sure could be. This happens sometimes.

For all we knew there was a cigarette near there that ignited fumes. Or ESD or some other form of electrical short. It could be cell phone signals.

I am currently in san antonio. Here is a pic I took of the trail of smoke which is now miles long

This is at least the 3rd oil related disaster in the US in the past 2-3 wks.

Cannot be a coincidence.

Gas prices are going to shoot through the roof.

I'm watching this play out on a live satellite feed right now. They just had a press conference with Chief Hood.

He says that there's more than a dozen tanks in a row by the fire with various chemicals, and that their whole goal, at the moment, is to keep them cool so they don't have a "real story".

They haven't even tried to put the fire out yet, and are using all the water for cooling. Apparently, they're going to attempt to get a safety valve shut and let the rest of the leak burn off. The danger now is what's known as a BLEVE. (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) If too much pressure causes even one of those tanks to rupture, they'll be glad they evacuated that 1/2 mile.

So far two have been injured, one treated, one released, and another truck driver is still missing. Lots of ugly black smoke.

They are trying to evacuate a 1 mile radius, and are currently fighting the fire with foam and powders.

The claim as of now is a driver was fueling up with a gas additive when something sparked the fuel and everyone went running

It is being reported that the fire has been extinguished. The person who was missing has been found, but 3 have been injured.

San Antonio refinery explosion forces evacuation

A major fire broke out Wednesday near downtown San Antonio, Texas, after several explosions rocked a local oil refinery, according to the San Antonio police and fire departments.

Local authorities ordered an evacuation of individuals within one mile of the explosion, San Antonio Fire Department spokeswoman Deborah Foster said. Multiple injuries were reported, including one serious injury.
