Coast Guard says BP has capped 1 of 3 leaks

www.fox10tv.com

The Coast Guard says BP PLC has managed to cap one of three leaks at a deepwater oil well, but the work is not expected to reduce the overall flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class David Mosley says the work Tuesday night should reduce the number of leak points that need to be fixed on the ocean floor. BP officials have said that fewer leaks will make it easier to drop a containment box on the breach

This just broke, so there is very little info so far, but they are very clear that 1 leak has been capped and it WILL NOT REDUCE OIL FLOW. I will speculate that they capped the smallest leak, and although it won't slow the flow it is definatly a step in the right direction. Let's hope they can cap the other 2.

So, this is not the containment dome we have heard about.

John Curry, director of external affairs for BP, said the leak that was capped was the smallest of the three leaks. Curry said the pipe was cut off and sealed with a slip valve.

Thats all great but,

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- BP officials told members of Congress in a closed-door meeting that the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico could be spewing as much as 60,000 barrels of oil a day, well over an earlier estimate of 5,000 barrels a day, according to reports on Wednesday. BP officials said the larger figure respresents a worst-case scenario. Meanwhile the Obama administration signaled it would support a fresh push in Congress to raise the oil spill liability limit to $10 billion from $75 million
