US Treasury website hacked, then suspended

A website of the US Treasury's Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) was suspended Tuesday after it was hacked, a BEP spokeswoman said.

"The hosting company used by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing had an intrusion and as a result of that intrusion, numerous websites (BEP and non-BEP) were affected," Claudia Dickens told AFP.

G'day ATS,

The article says that apparently the Hack was traced to the Ukraine.

In the eyes of the US, I'd imagine Ukraine = Russia so there may be some fall out from this.

I wonder what they were trying to do, who it was and for whom they were working.

I'll post more details if I can find them.

Doubt it.

It could have been North Korea using a proxy server, they have a long history of forging US scrip.

You aware of the number of individuals who routinely hack US government sites and databases? It's a lot more common than you think. You only hear about it when they are trying to make an example and want to arrest the hacker. 9 times out of 10, when a hacker gets into a US gov high security database, they tend to get jobs.
