Yes and no. It is an allegory showing that if you try to hide and bury the truth, no matter how deep, it will come to light one day as it is human nature to explore. Not just explore the physical realm, but also history, geography, and spiritually. While I do not believe it is an allegory for disclosure of ETs, I must admit it was a perceptive and creative leap on your part._javascript:icon('')
I personally think it was not based on any particular truth, but who knows, maybe Joss is embroiled in the mess that we call ATS and can offer up his two bob.

This was more a story about rewriting history the way a major government wanted and the truth being there for the taking for any renegade outfit of lovable bandits to pair off and take.

The TV series FIREFLY, was one of the best Space Sci-Fi shows out there. It rivaled all of the Star Trek series and spin-offs. But TPTB canceled the show in it's beginning, not allowing it to go into fruition. The movie Serenity, which had all of the returning cast members, grossed millions of dollars and exceeded way beyond it's profit margin.
The movie version, has a character called Mr Universe. His statement regarding," You can't stop the message Mal," may be a reference to the growing amount of information that is spread through the internet, or, the growing fan base of the Firefly community,

I'll modify my comment regarding this magnificent series and movie.
It was the BEST Sci_Fi movie and series made.

Serenity is an allegory for The Civil War

I always thought the following...

The War = The Civil War
Browncoats = Confederate soldiers
Alliance = Corporate America
Miranda = Miranda rights (a poor substitute for states rights)


But then I see this thread, so what the heck, I'll try it out as a Disclosure Allegory.


I seem to remember that the vast majority of characters in the movie
who fought to bring about "The Signal" died in the process.
Only once the word got out did the hunt for them stop.
We in the audience _know_ how much blood
was shed to get the message out, and
gave it great credence, but the
transmission as shown in
the movie could easily
be debunked.

If Serenity is
an allegory then
the message is that
no proof is going to be
accepted unless it is washed
in a lot of blood. Either the Aliens
will have to kill a lot of people, or a lot
of people will have to die getting one on TV.
And not quietly. They will have to be seen dying.

But if you mean Serenity is an allegory for how to organize
a conspiracy for truth in the face of massive resistance, one
that abhors the shedding of blood, then yes maybe. But still
I think Joss was telling us that Internet users are more like the
people who died inside their hermetically sealed offices. With no
pain, and who did nothing to save themselves. The Internet itself is
the new Pax, pacifying most but causing aggressiveness in a few others.

Conclusion:

Miranda = Internet addicts
Alliance = Main Stream Media
Browncoats = survivalists
The War = politics

well said, and S&F flag just cause it's Whedony. The beauty of all of his work is you can watch it two ways, sheer entertainment, or, look deeper for the commentary he attempts to make on society.

According to Joss Whedon, Firefly/Serenity are about none of those things. The Alliance is not an evil dictatorship, it wants what is best for the people under it's rule. However, it thinks to achieve that end, it needs to control peoples' lives. The Browncoats are those who have decided that they know what is best for them, not the government and believe they have the right to choose how to live their lives.

Miranda represents the Road to Hell. In trying to create a "world without sin" the Alliance committed an atrocity, albeit by accident, but an atrocity. still. The Alliance tries to cover it up, not because of some evil agenda, but because they believe it will hurt their goal of making the 'Verse a better place. In doing so, they commit even more atrocity, create even more suffering.

Any thread about Firefly get's my approval. Best series, and movie of all time. The underlying portrayal of independence, and libertarianism is the single most important message ever sent by any TV show ever IMHO. Now as for disclosure, I don't think so Whedon talked about how he didn't like the idea of aliens, and he wanted a show showing today, in the future. Watch the entire series you'll see there's one episodes where aliens are mentioned and the idea is laughed off, by both crew and others. Not a disclosure allegory, but I like the way you think!

The show is amazing, and the movie was great,
As for disclosure, awesome as it would be, I wouldn't back it.
