Very cool technology, and I'm all for holograms as visuals, but I'm a fan of touching actual stuff. I don't see the need to virtually touch a hologram. I suppose one could argue that a hologram falls within the definition of "stuff", but I'm not there (yet)

It's not like you ever really touch anything else anyway. This is just as good as that.

Wow , way cool! S&F!

give it another 20 years and we'll be seeing holodecks and photonic Dr's like in Star Trek.

How cool is this.

Could you imagine a Playstation 4 or Xbox 720 using this technology? It would take video game immersion to a whole new level.

cool how people all think it means shagging images of their hottest imagination chicks in a holodeck, when really its nothing like that.

Groovy how people think its the next best thing in technology, when its... well.. not.

The reaction here is actually more impressive than the OP's info.

That's funny..

ATS - "racist racist nurr nurr racist ignorant nurr nu.. Oh look a hologram I can touch, NICE!!"

What have you been smoking? What's wrong with people being interested in this technology?

Lighten up, idiot.

Man, ATS attracts some weird people.

This is well cool tech! I'd say it won't be too many years before we start seeing practical uses for this, although it could just as easily go the way of Virtual Reality and be deemed impractical for home use.

Just for fun, for those of us that are seeing, yet again Star Trek becoming reality, here's the top 10 current techs influenced by Star Trek.

Real Star Trek technology

can't wait!

I think we're still far away from touchable holograms. by the looks of it a resonance of the air where matter would be is created through sonics.

This is akin to a slight electrical 'buzz' sensation when you have skin in close proximity to the hologram.

I don't think we'll have any physical resistance for a pet or porn star.

If they could get 'force fields' though then Robert is your grandfather's son who isn't your dad.

S+F Mate has restored my faith in this site after so much political and racist garbage has been floating around.

That would be a holo deck, inside a holo deck.

We already live inside a holo deck.

Now Imagine the holo deck inside the holo deck, having a holo deck, that would be fun.

That's exactly what I was thinking. For example, the microwave was around 30-40 years before it became commercially available. My best wildest speculation as to what's going on behind the scenes: Chimera (human animal hybrids), true teleportation (thanks again, star trek!), and, rumored to be in existence, a kind of time travel- an object, say a plant, is placed in a field of some sort, and can be taken back to the seed stage or sped up to flower, fruit, and die. Japanese scientists are working on devices that can "read" your thoughts-although I'm certain this already exists in advanced (weaponized) form in shadowy alphabet soup agencies basements. Here's a link:

www.physorg.com...

A brave new world, indeed. What a strange time to be alive. Makes me want to go back to school, and study at MIT.

CHIMERA

TELEPORTATION

TIME TRAVEL, C2C AM

X-men, the Matrix, Paycheck, inspired by reality?
