Teen gets 40 years for killing Border Patrol agent

www.google.com

A 17-year-old Mexican was sentenced to 40 years in prison Thursday for murdering a U.S. Border Patrol agent who was lured from his vehicle during an attempted robbery and shot repeatedly in the head.

Defendant Christian Daniel Castro Alvarez, described as a one-time smuggler of illegal immigrants, sat with his head down throughout the hearing, as the wife and sisters of 30-year-old Robert Rosas emotionally described how his execution shattered their lives.

The story reports

Rosas was shot eight times in the head, neck and torso while on solo patrol the night of July 23, 2009 in a rugged, remote mountainous area near Campo, about 60 miles east of San Diego. He was shot repeatedly from behind.

His body was found with his wallet less than 100 yards from the border. His vehicle was nearby with the engine running and headlights on.

He is survived his wife, Rosalie, and two young children. Prosecutors wrote the judge last week that the children still run to the front door calling "Papa" when a car pulls up to the house.

so someone explain to me how hosting illegals here in this country doesn't hurt anyone???

You are making an invalid question there. You seem to be asserting that illegal alien and violent criminal are one and the same thing. That is not true.

I understand that you have a very serious problem on the US/Mexico border that is not to be understated; however, making blanket statements that are not true does not help resolve the problems.

You know its a bigger picture tied up with the (failed and pointless) American "War on Drugs". There are specific causes and solutions to your problems that lie outside of the your standard rhetoric that if you ignore will continue to generate and reinforce the problems.

Just saying. I agree that you have a problem that needs fixing, but you seem to be barking up the wrong tree IMHO.

this story isn't about the war on drugs... this young man is a Coyote, one of those who brings in illegals.... illegals will pay a coyote between $200 and $2,000 a head and some pesky border patrol agent comes along to mess up his biz.. after eight shoots I would say this one was violent... Face it if we had better immigration reform and a sealed border this officer wouldn't have died!

nope this story has nothing to do with drugs, this ones about human trafficking

Can you explain to me how using one murderer who happens to be illegal (as we all know, there have been thousands upon thousands of murders preformed by legal citizens) to make your argument is something that should be taken seriously?

a) the poster does not assert that.
b) it takes a lot of chutzpah to say that this tragic incident is not at all correlated with the ongoing rape of the United States, er, illegal immigration, er, "undocumented people".

We had a Pinal county deputy shot in the stomach with an AK-47, I believe it was last week, by another cross border gang.

Twenty percent of our local Arizona prison population, that is people arrested for violent or serious felonies, are illegal aliens. That is a hugely disproportionate figure for the illegal alien population.

No one else gets it, if you don't live on the border you cannot possibly understand the largely unreported war that is going on down here - ranchers, police officers, and border patrol agents are routinely engaged in gun fights, and they are being killed.

But apparently what is paramount is ensuring that people are not offended when they are asked to produce a driver's license.

Man, everything gets tainted with Americans. I keep waiting for a time when we'll get tired of stretching logic and reason so thin.

Anyway, this guy murdered one of ours. He was sentenced. Good, let him rot in a hole for the next 40 years.

As for the anger at illegals, being mad at them is really getting old. It's as off target, pointless, and will lead to bad policy like it did with the Chinese (Orientals at the time).

I see a lot of anger and very few practical ideas. Very few.

Peace

It's the kind of story that makes your blood boil. Incidents like these have the potential to make people act impulsively and irrationally in their strive for retribution. It is extremely difficult to achieve in such circumstances, but we can only pray that those involved keep their composure and do not give into the strong hate this event has triggered inside of them.

This is appalling, the barbarity displayed by the 17 year-old-kid. What strikes me is how young this person was. All this for a wallet with a few bucks in it. I feel sad for Border Agent Rosa's family, and hopefully the next time a border patrol agent is out in the hinter lands, they have back-up. He was out there all by himself, and the US border has become what some would call a no man's land.

Is this an illegal immigration issue, probably to a certain extent, but I am just looking at the crime itself. A man was murder by a young kid of 17-years-old. What the hell is this world coming to, when a 17-year-old can perform such a horrific crime for nothing more than what amounts to pocket change. Perhaps, there is a manpower and equipment shortage among the border patrol? Maybe, a cut in their funding went to bailout Wallstreet or GM? It is a shame, I hope this young man is pleased with his chosen vocation. His life ended before it started.

I'm confused...

Why don't we send him back? Why spend our tax dollars keeping him alive?

Send him back, tell Meixco if this guy shows back up here, it will be considered a hostile action taken by Mexico, and dealt with accordingly.

Same with each illegal immigrant in all the Arizona prisons.

It's a very simple solution....start holding Mexico accountable. You think they wouldn't hold us accountable if we had gangs going in killing their officers?

What a shame, my heart goes out to the family and friends of agent Rosas.

What I don't understand is why is our government sending border patrol agents out to patrol without a partner. They have a dangerous job and should not be patroling alone.

It's long past time for our government to send our military to protect our borders. Our border patrol agents should not be patroling alone and civilians should not have to monitor our borders.

I agree. We are spending trillions in unnecessary wars, and yet fail to hire enough personnel (and hence create jobs) to guard the borders of our homeland, this is just nuts.

A proper fence with armored surveillance towers and gun turrets can look ugly, but hey, if it saves lives, let's do it.

If your using the old testament as a reference to justify murder, you need to read the New Testament.
The death penalty and abortion are wrong.
Murder is murder, whether it is committed by a person or a sovereign.

Only a weak mind with a weak heart would act impulsively and or irrationally.
Many of us have neither.

Take a look at the amount of illegal aliens that make up gangs such as MS-13, La Eme and others.

That's why I don't understand these 'open border' idiots.

Without some kind of organized immigration system, you get the gang-bangers and drug runners coming in with the law abiding illegals.

Build a goddamn wall from San Diego to Brownsville, and man it with the national guard. Take the money we are wasting in Iraq and Afghanistan to pay for it.

Now I wait for the obligatory moron to tell me why we shouldn't build a wall....

Lev. 19:33
When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt.

Matt. 7:12
Do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

George W. Bush
Every human being has dignity and value, no matter what their citizenship papers say.

That last quote is just about the only thing I agree with W on. People Are People!! Jesus didn't say "Love everyone who was born in your own country," did he?? No. If supporting the needy and less-fortunate adds another $129.95 to your yearly tax bill, SO WHAT?? After all, you're already paying taxes that go into welfare (and yes, this means we've had real live Socialism in America since, uhhh, 1913 or so). Telling the poor and needy to get lost is exactly what got Sodom and Gomorrah wiped out, too, exactly. How soon we forget; sheesh, it's only been about 4,000 years, people.

Incidents such as this shooting would not ever happen if they could come here legally, just like how God-only-knows how many Americans wouldn't have been SHOT DEAD during Prohibition (and even more have been martyred to the "War On Some Drugs"). Why don't they come here legally? Because it costs many thousands of dollars to become a US citizen (paid, of course, mostly to lawyers), a lot more than a Coyote will charge them for transport. None of them can afford it unless they come here first and do lots of work to earn that money. Vicious circle.

The basic point to get from all this is that you should never devalue another human being just because of where they're born. That, and if you can put money ahead of people's lives, ANY people, then money is what you worship... and there will be a reckoning. Most of the posters in this thread seem to be in that category. Repent now before it's too late!!

Lyndon B. Johnson
These are the stakes: to make a world in which all of God's children can live, or to go into the dark. We must either love each other, or we must die.
