Super Sniper Kills Taliban 1.5 Miles Away

Corporal of Horse Craig Harrison fired his consecutive shots from such a long distance that they took almost three seconds to reach their targets. The distance to his two targets was 8,120ft, or 1.54 miles - according to a GPS system - and about 3,000ft beyond the weapon's effective range.Cpl of Horse Harrison, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, was using the British-built L115A3 Long Range Rifle, the army's most powerful sniper weapon.

Now I think that can be called as a good achievement. The report says that the weather was clear with no wind and clear visibility. Perhaps the near perfect conditions might have maximized the range of the bullets that were fired from the sniper rifle.

what size bullet does it fire? Is it really a record distance? It's amazing after a 3 sec flight time the targets were still in the same place.

Absolutely amazing!!!

I have heard of/seen 1500m shots with the 7.62/308 and even some amazing distances with the .50, but nothing at this distance with this cal.

Great find..

Very very good shooting or a little BS,

I wonder what the elevation adjustment was for that distance...

I can shoot a 5.56 round at an upward angle and kill someone 3 miles away...I just wont know where it goes and who it kills...

What's this used for?

Oh wait... these are weapons used by murders.

My bad.

Whats the point of glorifying this 'achievement'?

No, its a tool used by an operator to achieve a goal. Motives for such goals can be argued but the effectiveness of the operator and the tool are truely amazing...

P.S. go hug a tree...

Thats one up for the brits, it wasnt too long ago the taliban were boasting that they just moved away from our soldiers so they were out of gunfire range. They were basically mocking us ....lets see them do it when this fella's on the field.
flagged for sure.

If the word "achievement" portrays a sense of glorification of killings, then we can call it as a "statistic". Having said that, despite the words that we might like to use, the media that is showcasing this article does intend to display this "statistic" as an achievement.

also seen shots hit it's intended target from around 1500metres by a .300 magnum rifle, these took around 2-3 secs to hit.

how small would the target look at 25x zoom at 1.5mile distances I wonder.

here's roughly what the view would of been like, good shooting for sure.

And this "achievement" is for the effectiveness of the instrument and the person who is operating it. Justification of war is a gray area and can be subjectively interpreted as more black than white or more white than black by any individual based on his/her set of beliefs.

Great shot!

But not a super sniper. You can get them from alot farther away than that...

This WAS an achievement.

That was an amazing shot, first of all.

Second, if a group of men had not conspired to takeover civilian aircraft and fly them into American buildings, killing thousands of people, they would not now be hunted as criminals They would have no reason to fear that Westerners were coming into their country and trying to kill them. This was a RESPONSE, not an initiating action!!
