Are the feds punishing Texas?

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry certainly has taken his shots at Washington officials, labeling them power-grabbing, free-spending socialists. And now he says the feds are firing back.

The state lost the $2.6 billion contract for producing Army trucks. The Johnson Space Center is facing the cancellation of a $108 billion moon launch program. The Environmental Protection Agency is breathing down the state's smoggy neck, as are other federal regulators.

One thing is certain: The way Texas does business is being challenged.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said Perry's policies have given the state one of the strongest economies in the nation. Instead of punishing Texas, the federal government should hold it up as an example, he said.

I saw this and Im not sure what to make of it. Im not a big fan of Perry, but Texas seems to be doing good, recession wise.

With elections in November, Im thinking this could just be all talk but then again it does have truth to it.

I don't see what the problem is, other than "Don't bite the hand that feeds you."

As for Texas doing well enough to warrent some form of example, there are plenty of other states that are doing better. If anything, the Dakota's serve a better example.

I vote we just let them secede from the union and then they can just do what they want. I want to see how they do with the Mexican/Texas drug war that would certainly follow secession. When they ask the US for help, we could tell them no that it would be socialism to help them out.

I think it's just the Hair Model towing his own mini party line.

He is making me embarrassed as a Texan. Succession would fix nothing. While the die hard Texan in me thinks it would be possible, it wouldn't. Plain and simple.

He is just drumming up support. Sadly, I think it works...

Oh I am sure that Texas is being punished, but will not feel like the Lone Ranger before long as solvent red states will be sacrificed for the benefit of insolvent blue states California, New York. Its called spreading the wealth, its just not fair that some states have too much money.

Since Texas controls the ports for 60% of our oil, jet fuel and motor fuels imports as well as delivers 40% of the nations natural gas consumption, I'd hate to see them secede. The import tariff for using the ports could be a bitch and after Cap & Trade is passed without the natural gas deliveries there could be alot of people cold in the dark.
