Obama Sends SWAT to Inspect Oil Rigs in Gulf

Not trying to whip a dead horse, but the arificial lift comes in as depletion drops bottomhole pressure or the well starts making water where it can no longer overcome the hydrostatic head.

For readers, I doubt that there was sabotage based upon the "field" rumors that always get out in the oilfield. Where there might be 6 stages of separation in the world there are only two in the oilfield, so what I heard is probably accurate.

I am thoroughly convinced that the current regime cannot stand the energy industry and do intend to create a crisis since they have very little control of oil, gas or coal or nuclear, the only real energy generators that exist, renewables account for less than 5%. They will use this incident causedby the incompetence by the BP idiots as part of the plan to create an energy crisis. Shutting down drilling in the gulf will accelerate the timing of the crisis after they pass Cap & Trade.

I can hardly wait for the senatorial show trials as they ask the energy industry (after showing pictures of frozen or baked grandmas )" Why weren't providing energy when we wouldn't give you a permit and you were losing your ass due to changes in tax policy?"

Billyjack, thanks for all of the inside information. From what I gather, a blow out occurred at a particular depth - so what would have caused the explosion on board the ship?

Turning? I think that happened a long time ago. Although a civilian police force larger than the US military would certainly cement the plan.

All of the work to run production casing occurs inside a riser pipe that is attached to the wellhead and runs 5000' up to the rig. I doubt that this riser is designed to control excessive pressures. When the well kicked the oil and gas flowed up this riser to the rig floor where something sparked causing the fire & explosion. I would have thought that even this riser would have had a control mechanism that would have diverted the flow to a flare stack away from the rig, but the flow may have exceeded its capacity. When things start going to hell with a "kick"(sudden excessive pressure at the surface) there is usually alot of confusion. My experience is everyone runs like hell and the only people left on the floor is me the "toolpusher" (drilling contractor's rig supervisor) and if your lucky the driller.

People have short memories! I believe Obama mis-spoke. He meant to put SWAT in quotes, as in 'tiger team' of experts.

I completely agree. I went and looked up the definition of SWAT to make sure I understood what it meant:...

Yeah, but...

The term "SWAT team" has come to mean any expert emergency team sent into any situation to handle a mess.

IT Shops have "SWAT teams" to deal with problem projects, Accountancy firms have "SWAT teams" to send to clients to deal with serious problems.

It has become a generic term, like Kleenix or Aspirin. It no long means just what it did when it was coined.
