Um, what is the point of sucess? Seriously can any one answer that question? What is the point of doing well at your job and being sucessful? You mention people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, yet how quickly do people forget that they willingly take the money that they earn and donate it to charities and create foundations to give back to the communities. If the President is going to make blank statements like that then he is setting up for where people are going to be asking do we really need that kind of regulation on our businesses and the people who run them?
If you think back before the gain of the stockmarket and businesses that were ran privately, they tend to historically do alot better than those who are public held, cause those that are private, the only risk a person has, is to himself, his family and partner.

The liberal/commie views any sort of success or wealth with utter contempt. In his mind, anyone earning more immediately becomes an "enemy", "oppressor" or "conspirator".

I bet Obama suppresses the urge to say more in order to appear sociable/sane. So the liberal motto "down with the rich!" becomes "there is a limit to how succesful they are allowed to be"

Now Obama is going to tell people when they have made enough money?

This is how far left progressives think.

I remember debating Liberals on Huffington Post. They were upset that Simon Cowell was getting a big contract for American Idol. They were saying that nobody is worth that much and how sad it is Simon is making that much money.

I had to remind them that we live in a free country and if Simon can get a contract worth that much, then FOX is making much more from advertising.

This is the far left mentality and they also think that people who get rich are crooks so they need to redistribute wealth. They think you are crooks unless you're them.

Ah, I don't know about you...

Where you went with this is pretty funny... however

I think they did a great job and should have "earned" more money trading binary code!

I think by natural law, when you bet against your professional capacity and duties to personally profit you are crooked.

I'm gonna fix your car!

While I'm at it, I am going to punch holes in your manifold

see you soon Billy! Enjoy those new brakes!

I have to say I only read a few responses so if someone said this already I am sorry.

Obviously there is a point at which one person can have too much money. I am not talking about the 5.5M someone said Obama made, that is a VERY modest income for the person that is blamed for everything that goes on while he is in office. It doesn't make sense for the people on wall street and others who are in positions to make billions of dollars to make that much money.

Not even professional athletes, who people are always complaining about making too much money, make even a fraction of what the people at the top are making.

The people that make too much money are those at the top, the people attending the bilderburg meetings, the people that actually run our economy.

Ah, yes this is how the far left thinks?
Psht, what a partisan statement that was, and only furthers the two parties.

And John McCain doesn't own shares in oil companies right? Right.
Obama's just saying that they strive to make more and more while taking more money from the people, and thus circulating less, and allowing themselves to fail.

WHile I don't believe they "made enough" I do believe they shouldn't be making so much at our economic expense and the health of the economy.

Watch and you'll see that they won't.

Yea, shouldn't he share his wealth?

I remember his charitable donation listed on his taxes the year he got elected, he don't practice what he preaches.

the top 400 families in this country have wealth equal to 50 percent of the REST OF THE POPULATION.

Yes, these families are behind all the big ass corporations that many of you hate and that corrupt our government......but F IT...who cares....let's defend them and advocate tax cuts so they can pocket a few more billion and create NO JOBS.

I'm sick of people talking out of THEIR ASSES.

I am not a fan of Obama but please step back for one second and take a look at things from outside your own mind. I'm sure that he donates money to some cause but even if he doesn't, is that really your complaint with him? The president has many obligations, he has no free time at all, every minute he is on call to do whatever it is that is scheduled for the day. Even the money that would be spread around would be done so because someone decided it would be good for his ratings.

I just don't see what the point of bickering about how the president spends his money on is. Much of what the media reports on is just to keep people bickering and talking about things that don't matter.
If any of the "ultra-rich" class ever really wanted to help the world they could. Honestly it would take just a few days. How easy would it be for people in the bilderberg group to have an open meeting with media present to openly discuss solving problems such as hunger and disease. I'm certain in one afternoon dramatic steps could be taken if the world's elite wanted it to happen.
Things will never truly get better until leaders of the world stop looking at other people as different than them. Until people look at each other as part of the same race and respect all traditions and ways of life things will never change.

It's always enlightening to see career criminals posing as politicians, telling other people how much money they should or should not be entitled to make.

Absolutely I agree that the corruption on Wall Street stinks and I am all for breaking down the ability of any corporation to run a monopoly or use billions of dollars to pay lobbyists who dictate our governmental policies.

The Obamas made over $5 million last year, which by politician standards may not have been that much, but to real world real working class people I say it is a fortune.

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chris Dodd, all of these same people who are railing against business for making huge profits all are millionaires themslves and have their hands in the pockets of every US citizen, every lobbyist and every special interest group in town.

So Im calling you out Obama and your socialist cronies, put your money where your mouth is. I say anyone in this country, politician or otherwise, can live well and comfortably on $300K per year with no problem whatsoever. Anything above that is just excessive.

So why dont we make it a mandate that any income that any public government official rakes in above and beyond the $300K mark should be paid back into the system or used to fund charities or support the "poor and downtrodden" that you all seem so fond of helping.

And for the record.......it was reported just today that Dr. Ron Paul, Congressman from the state of Texas, was the one and only representative on Capitol Hill to willingly decline his impending Congressional pay raise.

Food for thought

How do I get in on this "not paying income tax" thing?

Have a kid. I made just under 30k last year, and for the first time ever I got more back in Federal than I payed in.

That's where much of it comes from...also the tax credits for new homebuyers and other programs made the numbers what they were. If you didn't take advantage of those programs...that is probably why you didn't break the line.

Areas with a lower standard of living benefit the most from these laws...especially those in rural areas as you get more bank for you buck than you would in an urban area or city.

Hey thanks for star, though I would like to see the federal pay come to levels of the avg. family income. Not one of them has ever earned a real dollar breaking a single drop of sweat, maybe the ones who go tanning on our tax dollars.

They've sent most of the jobs OUT OF THE COUNTRY for slave labor because our trade laws suck. The middle class is being wiped out and you have the f'n nerve to stick up for multi-billionaires?

I work for small business that can't compete with these gigantic corporations who pay for slave labor. And people wonder why our manufacturing base is gone and our economy is failing....

not sure if anyone brought this up, but well,
that was only part of the sentence...
he went on to say, that this was american, and part of the american dream is that if you have a good product to sell and people who are willing to buy it, and can turn a good profit, well, you can make as much as you like...

or something like that...I am paraphrasing, the computer is acting wacky...but read beyond the first bit of the sentence please???

my problem is how do these wall street and ceo guys make billions yet their companies go bankrupt! thats just messed up in so many ways, they did a terrible job, ruined our economy yet they still have their yachts and mansions, these are the people obama is saying that to! he should be saying give me all your assets and property you do not deserve all that "hard earned" wealth. tell me how was it "hard earned" when they lost billions of dollars and effectivley trashed our economy???

What I hear on these boards is some people want to dictate what others make.

For instance, Steve Jobs is worth more than 5 billion dollars. This is because of things like Pixar and people buying ipods aand iphones.

Should we limit Jobs to 1 billion and Pelosi, Reid and Obama get to redistribute the rest?

See, this would make them a dictator. This is because Obama will redistribute wealth according to his ideology and a republican will redistribute wealth according to their ideology.

So it's best that Steve Jobs spends the money he earned instead of crooked politicians in Washington. I have an iPhone and an iPod and I like them. I don't see anything wrong with Jobs making billions of dollars.

This is why the Founders restrained government. They wanted Americans living by the dictates of their conscious not the dictates of Obama or some other leader.

Obama said the Constitution was fundamentally flawed because it restrains government and it doesn't talk about the redistribution of wealth.

Every American should be shocked that a President of the United States is making statements like this.

The same people screaming they support these things Obama is saying would be screaming dictator if Bush said the same thing.

This is the trap you fall into when you talk about redistribution of wealth. Obama is in office now, but if a republican gets in office in 2012 and redistributes the wealth Democrats would be kicking and screaming.

This is why it's best to let people spend the money they earn instead of any redistribution of wealth.

Did you forget to wear your helmut again?

Look we cannot help if you believe carting elite pee pee in a bucket is a respectable
form of employment, however you cannot expect us to agree with you on that.

See elitist shine boys like you should create yourself a better position in thy masters home.

Maybe every time they create a million dollars of fake BS earnings you can clap and throw roses about the gilded room?

If their profits came at the expenses of exploiting the livelihood of investors saving accounts, retirement and homes yes they made enough money and need to be control so they don't play with other peoples money irresponsible.
