Yeah, they have been doing this for, I think, eleven years now. Usually in YYZ but as Rush ain't a playing there they all decided to come here. From what I've read on the Counterparts board they all had a pretty good time, unlike me. But that's just because I suck, I guess.

I can't even count the ways I hate Las Vegas as they are too numerous. Even a great gig like Rush is only is only a brief respite from my crappy so-called life. Oh well.

O'Douls, yeah, I quit drinking back in '05 as I had spent the few years before that in a drunken haze. Plus it sucks to blackout and not remember the concert, which has happened a few times to me. No more of that crap for me.

Everybody needs a mood lifter and I need one more than most.

This must be the greatest thread ever. I've been a huge fan of RUSH since I was 16. That was back in 1979-80. I was having a drink at a friends house with a few people and someone put 2112 on the stereo.

WHAT THE HECK?!! Who is that? AMAZING!! I hadn't heard anything so good since someone played me Deep Purple's Child in Time.

XANADU - I know Coleridge wrote most of that in a poem hundreds of years ago but that was just a rough sketch in comparison to what Neil Peart did to it. He made a masterpiece on a par with Stairway to Heaven.

Geddy Lee - I love a singer that stands out. Anyone notice Budgie frontman Burke Shelley sounds awfully like him and kinda looks similar?

And Robert Harvey from THE MUSIC has similar vocals. Or maybe it's just my ears??

I remember being in a friends red Berlinetta, listening to Red Barchetta. First time I ever heard Rush. Sometime in 1981. Totally blown away. I was soon sucked all the way in by 2112 and Hemispheres. It was seeing Alex in concert with his ES-1275 double neck that made me have to buy one too. Not Jimmy Page like most people who have one, but Alex Lifeson.

3 amazing musicians all in the same band......
I will never get tired of listening to them

Deep Purple's Child in Time.

Ian Gillan at his peak. That, and Gethsemane. Great stuff.

I'm a Rush geek, probably have been since before I was born. I never tire of them either.

Been a Rush fan since 2112, I was 5 when my dad would jam to it.

I must recommend we Rush fans revisit Signals, a ton of great music there.

Subdivisions
Analog Kid
Chemistry
Digital Man
Weapon
New World Man
Losing It
Coundown

This is a very fun album to cover, no boring spots at all.

This coming from a huge Rush fan which at one time, I did pass up the Signals album. Totally my bad on that one.

I'm sort of curious: What are some of your favorite lyric quotes from RUSH?
i.e.. "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend.", "His mind is not for rent to any god or government." stuff like that...

Without much thought at all, a couple of my favorite lyrics from them are:

And the men who hold high places,
Must be the ones who start.
To mold a new reality.
Closer to the heart.

Another one...sort of the way I felt when finishing college..which actually was pretty close to around the time this song came out:

Proud swagger out of the schoolyard.
Waiting for the world's applause.
Rebel without a conscience,
Martyr without a cause.

The way I feel in general about Rush as a band Neil himself wrote is his lyrics:

I hear their passionate music
Read the words that touch my heart
I gaze at their feverish pictures
The secrets that set them apart

When I feel the powerful visions
Their fire has made alive
I wish I had that instinct
I wish I had that drive

I could go on, and on, and on. You have tempted me, and "I (must) learn to resist, anything but temptation"....

btw...all quotes and my paraphrased last line courtesy of Neil Peart and Rush.

Nice Webpirate!!

Maybe because of the current state of everything regarding us silly humans, this snipit has been popping into my head now and then, weird.

The most endangered species
The honest man
Will still survive annihilation
Forming a world
State of integrity
Sensitive, open and strong

Yeah....I almost wrote in my above post
"it's a far cry from the world we though we'd inherit."

We could make multiple multiple threads on Neil's lyrics......

You can't have freedom for free.

One of my faves:

All that we can do is just survive
All that we can do to help ourselves is stay alive...
Ragged lines of ragged grey Skeletons, they shuffle away
Shouting guards and smoking guns
Will cut down the unlucky ones

I clutch the wire fence until my fingers bleed
A wound that will not heal --
a heart that cannot feel --
Hoping that the horror will recede
Hoping that tomorrow, we'll all be freed
Sickness to insanity
Prayer to profanity
Days and weeks and months go by
Don't feel the hunger -- too weak to cry

I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate
Are the liberators here -- do I hope or do I fear?
For my father and my brother, it's too late
But I must help my mother stand up straight...
Are we the last ones left alive?
Are we the only human beings to survive?...

I always pictured the camp they had from the movie Red Dawn. Where the parents were taken and held when I hear that song.

Another one I really like...that even sometimes finds it's way onto my ATS signature is from A Farewell To Kings

When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow

So I was listening to a Rush gold cd this morning and the song was The Trees....

Man, I tell ya, sounds like the oaks are the 1% and the maple trees are the 99% (sound familiar?)

--------
There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their please.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Aren't all of their CD's gold?

I've read this thread too much the last few days. Just woke up a bit ago from dreaming about hanging out with Alex Lifeson in Vegas!!!
