hey i saw a sardu in India bury his head in a hole in the pavement beside the road, do a headstand and stay there unmoving for over a hour, hen he pulled his head out brushed himself off, picked up what little gear he had and walked off.
Guess that's impossible to!

So his time is up,

An observational study on Mr Prahlad Jani was carried out for 15 days from 22 Apr 2010 to 06 May 2010, who claims to survive without food and water and not passing urine and stool. Following is the official statement of panel of experts, researchers, and doctors after completion of study.

2. Observational study to understand the mechanism by which he is able to survive without food and water. Such a scientific understanding of the mechanism of survival may help in working out survival strategies under stressful and extreme conditions. This may have application during natural calamities and disasters.

3. The study was carried out under the continuous observation by a team consisting of scientists from DIPAS and doctors from Sterling Hospital Ahmedabad along with other coordinating agencies like SRISTI/ Govt of Gujarat and other consulting doctors.

4. The study Protocol duly cleared by the Ethical Committees of DIPAS and Sterling Hospital was strictly followed and all efforts were made to see that privacy, safety, security and dignity of Shri Prahlad Jani was not compromised at any stage during the study.

5. The present study is limited only to the period under observation i.e. 22Apr 2010 to 06 May 2010.

6. During the study a protocol of round the clock strict surveillance was followed with the help of CCTV camera and personal observations. He was taken out for MRI, USG and X-Ray and exposure to sun under continuous video recordings.

7. Periodic clinical, biochemical, radiological and other relevant examinations were done on Shri Prahlad Jani. All reports were found within the safe range throughout the study.

8. During the above observation period Shri Prahlad Jani has not consumed anything and has not passed stool. The only contact with any form of fluid was during gargling and bathing periodically during the study beginning from 5th day of study.

9. Mr Jani has also not passed urine from his body during the observation period; however the claim will be scientifically substantiated after analysis of investigations carried out.

10. All the reports and results will be scientifically analyzed, subsequently and will take some time. The entire study team will meet periodically to discuss the findings and draw valid conclusions.

11. The study could not have been possible without the utmost voluntary cooperation for each part of the protocol by Shri Prahlad Jani, his brother who was a genetic control in the study and his followers who ensured smooth conduct of the study.

12. DIPAS places on record the appreciation for Prof.Anil Gupta, SRISTI, Dr.Sudhir Shah Neurologist, Dr Urman Dhruv,Sr Physician and other members of the team for their extraordinary initiative, relentless enthusiasm, tireless efforts and selfless dedication for completion of this study. In particular ,DIPAS acknowledges the contributions of following doctors & staff; DIPAS places on record the appreciation for Prof.Anil Gupta, SRISTI, Dr.Sudhir Shah, Neurologist, Dr Urman Dhruv Sr.Physian and other members of the team for their extraordinary initiative, relentless enthusiasm, tireless efforts and selfless dedication for completion of this study. Also the news in on about it,

'Starving yogi' astounds Indian scientists
By Rajesh Joshi (AFP) – 5 hours ago

AHMEDABAD, India — An 83-year-old Indian holy man who says he has spent seven decades without food or water has astounded a team of military doctors who studied him during a two-week observation period.

Prahlad Jani spent a fortnight in a hospital in the western India state of Gujarat under constant surveillance from a team of 30 medics equipped with cameras and closed circuit television.

During the period, he neither ate nor drank and did not go to the toilet.

"We still do not know how he survives," neurologist Sudhir Shah told reporters after the end of the experiment. "It is still a mystery what kind of phenomenon this is."

The long-haired and bearded yogi was sealed in a hospital in the city of Ahmedabad in a study initiated by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the state defence and military research institute.

The DRDO hopes that the findings, set to be released in greater detail in several months, could help soldiers survive without food and drink, assist astronauts or even save the lives of people trapped in natural disasters.

"(Jani's) only contact with any kind of fluid was during gargling and bathing periodically during the period," G. Ilavazahagan, director of India's Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), said in a statement.

Jani has since returned to his village near Ambaji in northern Gujarat where he will resume his routine of yoga and meditation. He says that he was blessed by a goddess at a young age, which gave him special powers.

During the 15-day observation, which ended on Thursday, the doctors took scans of Jani's organs, brain, and blood vessels, as well as doing tests on his heart, lungs and memory capacity.

"The reports were all in the pre-determined safety range through the observation period," Shah told reporters at a press conference last week.

Other results from DNA analysis, molecular biological studies and tests on his hormones, enzymes, energy metabolism and genes will take months to come through.

"If Jani does not derive energy from food and water, he must be doing that from energy sources around him, sunlight being one," said Shah.

"As medical practitioners we cannot shut our eyes to possibilities, to a source of energy other than calories."

Guess its time to play the waiting game for the actual results to be finalized into a report, or a case study, Im not sure if they can write a peer reviewed article for this.

You got a point. I would like to see him run a marathon and then have no need of water or food.

He might be in some dreammode, trance or deep meditation that keeps him of the nutritionchart as when you are in a sleep or coma. I do know for a fact that you can fool you brain that you get the right substance by just strongly believe in it or feel it.
In this way i can get [swedish]-----> "nickokick" or niquotine kick from just a piece of bread under my lip.

It's called SUNS and ive been free from it for over 5 years now. Yet i can have the "kick"

I'm shocked. I thought I would return to this thread and find that he had died or that he was discovered drinking his own urine or something.

But to come back and find that the claim was validated is totally weird and awesome at the same time.

It will be very interesting to see what the genetics results come back as.

This may validate that the universe as we see it is not what we think it is and we can achieve literally anything if we are in the zone with what we want aka The Secret.

Peace Out,

Korg.

according to yahoo :- "during a 15-day observation, doctors took scans of Jani's organs, brain, and blood vessels, as well as doing tests on his heart, lungs and memory capacity-the reports were all in the pre-determined safety range through the observation period. if true, its still exciting for scientists to eventually be able to work out that the body can survive without food and drink, but just because this man is in the "safety range" isnt a definate "yes" that he has an overall GREAT bill of health. his body may well be trying to scrape every last format of possible energy out there (sunlight?)-but just dont be shocked to learn that his hearing/sight/physical and mental abilities havent been that great for many years (ie when he stopped eating/drinking)...

I suspect the whole reason his body has survived is out of habit. Is this too hard to believe?!- that if he eat/drunk very little at such an early age, his body may have no doubt adapted so much over the yrs that he could stop eating completely. If found out to be true, it would seem modern science still has alot to learn about the brain and body- hopefully by the end of this yr after all his scan results have been analysed they will know a great deal more about his condition, and perhaps have made some new discoveries as a result. I expect there will be very little in the field of religion that is truly keeping this guy alive, although his strong beliefs could well be aiding him mentally in being able to cope-at 80 he no doubt isnt able to run very far, but I suspect if he hasnt eaten for so long he may not have been so active 40 yrs ago either!

What I find interesting mentioned first thing in the article is, how this could serve soldiers. Soldiers! If we should ever find out about how this secret works, first thing the government has on its mind is how to use it in war situations. Great! Says a lot. We don't think first about the possibilities it may bring for poor countries where people are starving...no, first thing that comes to mind is soldiers. Geee.

The same website I originally found the article has another one calling hoax based on a group of skeptics who were not doctors on the case and who cant have read the yet to be released reports;

Australian experts have strongly disputed an Indian man's claim that he has gone without food and water for almost 70 years

I wondered at the time why a mainstream paper with the clear agenda the nine network has shown over the years would allow such a story, perhaps this one slipped through the cracks and they need to call hoax by default so as not to cause truth seeking in readers.

University of Wollongong nutrition expert Anne McMahon agreed Mr Jani had probably meditated while under observation at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

But it was highly unlikely he had not produced at least some urine, even if he had refused fluids, she said.

"Your body produces about one-and-a-half cups of fluid just through the normal processes of breaking down and repairing itself," she said.

"Even when you’re asleep, you’re still functioning and those cells produce fluid."

Mr Jani’s claims made no "metabolical or physiological sense", she said.

news.ninemsn.com.au...

So she's basically saying it was fraudulent, he must have been urinating, because according to her paradigm it makes no sense therefore it must be a hoax. She has no room for the existance of anything outside her paradigm regardless of the presentation of evidence she must defend the fundamentalist dogma dispite how objective. God forbhid she wakes up one day to find out all her expertise that maintains her ego and sense of purpose is found to be irrelevent or wrong.

Quite honestly... I don't know.

On the face of it the 70 year claim seems extremely unlikely.

Having said that ... I'm no scientist or medical professional. The people who have been studying him first hand (for the last 15 days) apparently are. If they can scientifically prove that he hasn't eaten, drunk, urinated or defecated for 15 days running, that in itself would be a pretty remarkeble achievement... since I'm led to believe that the human body cannot survive without drinking SOME water for much more than 3 days.

If they do show a 15 day achievement by this man, does this prove he has gone without eating or drinking for 70 years?... Not at all ... I don't think that can be proven, not without having the guy in a laboratory for the last 70 years.

Does it suggest that this guy has some method of surviving without food or drink for 15 days? .... according to the people studying him it does

That being true, does it open (however faintly) the possibility that the guy could use the same method to do this for a much longer period?.... possibly

How much longer?... Who can know, without studying him for an indefinite period of time.

Perhaps, when/if the results obtained by the scientists/medics over the last 15 days are published and peer reviewed... perhaps even duplicated (or not) by another independent team, we might get a better idea as to the validity of the guy's claims, the tests carried out, and whether any/all of this is true or not.

Until then, I remain open-minded enough to entertain SOME possibility of this all being kosher.

To simply say 'It can't be true, so it isn't' is as much an act of faith as it is to say 'It's all true, trust me, I know it to be so.
Best answer I can give, I'm afraid

All the reports and results will be scientifically analyzed, subsequently and will take some time. The entire study team will meet periodically to discuss the findings and draw valid conclusions.

In other words, you'll never here anything about this again. And if you do, it will be inconclusive.
