A multi-million dollar scientific space balloon has crashed on take-off in Alice Springs, destroying its payload and tipping over a car.

It ain't no UFO, but it sure is one big looking balloon. Apparently it nearly took out another car where a couple were sitting.

It makes me wonder about some of the UFO reports though when the balloon stats are:

That balloon was as large as the Melbourne Cricket Ground when fully inflated, carried a two-tonne payload and travelled in the outer edge of the atmosphere at 50 metres per second.

That is pretty big.
