Special Report: Rapid growth of militias feeds off politics

CONSPIRACY THEORIES

Allegations of infringed liberties are amplified in some sections of the media and online where false stories flagging government plans to build internment camps to detain U.S. citizens in the event of unrest or to install a New World Order can find a willing audience.

"Today, militia members and experts say a number of factors are driving the new surge:

* The 9/11 attacks, which revived the notion that citizens should defend the United States against threats.

* The 2001 Patriot Act, passed in the wake of 9/11, which stirred fears that the government would use enhanced powers against ordinary citizens.

* Anger at government failure to stop mass illegal immigration from Latin America.

* The recent recession, the worst since the 1930s.

* The election in 2008 of President Barack Obama. Many see Obama as a Socialist bent on growing government, raising taxes and confiscating guns; his status as the country's first African American president exacerbated fears about him, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

* Healthcare reform, seen as exemplifying oppressive government power and intrusion -- the contemporary version of a 1994 ban on assault weapons that enraged the right wing.

The extent to which healthcare reform is galvanizing the militia movement cannot be overstated. In more than a dozen conversations with militia members in recent weeks, the topic came up over and over again without prompting."

Well do we want to end up like Nazi Germany, Socalist Russia, or Commuinist China?

I will keep my Republic thank you very much.

Don't tread on me! I Tread back!

I find it somewhat comforting that there are people who are so concerned that they will consider forming militias for use as a last resort. At least there is still some fighting spirit that is responsible for the creation of a nation based upon freedom.

Too many today think that government and man can never be too abusive or tyrannical to warrant physical action. I hope it would never come to that, however to ensure that, an armed, informed, and involved people must be vigilant in reminding the government of this. If that means, organizing in non-government sanctioned groups to train 'just-in-case' then it should be.

As things are now, those government peoples and agencies have engaged in treason and every legal attack as well as in the voting booth should commence. If not, God help us when legal briefs and ballots must be exchanged for bullets and bombs.

And you don't have any objection if your Republic remains a democracy?
I am going to see that it isn't taken over by militia's and remains strong for me and my family and as a beacon to freedom loving people everywhere.

Unfortunately the United States isn't a democracy. Read the constitution, it's a Republic.

Democracies are where all eligible voters vote on every single issue. A Republic is one where the elected representatives vote on the issues at hand. Could imagine our retarded electoral voting on every issue... hell our elected representatives can't even get it right....

I think eventually it might come to this since drug companies actually prop-up one of our political parties www.theresistanceseries.com...
The Resistance. A plague is sent over the world. One pharmaceutical company makes the antidote and is attempting to enslave people. A militia forms, a renegade group fighting the mass hypnotized majority. Whenever anyone tells you there is only one solution, to any problem they are usually wrong. This militia group called 'The Resistance' is fighting that notion perpetuated by politics. Very entertaining. But I mean if you are going to fight for some thing let it be humans over non tangible interests.

My question re these politically inspired militia...

Why don't we pay these freedom loving patriots to go and guard the boarders?

The militia is every able-bodied man of that state. Only physical, mental and religious exemptions apply. Do your duty or you are not worthy of being a citizen. That is WHO the militia is, guys!

I think I need to start my own militia...
we can meet every Thursday down at Hooters, there we will rally against how government meddling has led to the high cost of beer and how regulation of skimpy waitress tops is infringed liberties!!!... Of course our version of the new world order depends on who gets stuck with the bill...

Makes just as much sense as the reporters story does...

Why people feel the need to form militias is because every day it seems our own government as abandoned "we the people" in favor of big business... Folks form militias because their scared and Washington has done little to calm those fears... Look at us down in the border states we fear drug cartels and lack of a government response as forced many to take up arms... Maybe if the Government did what they were created for, looking after "We the People" there wouldn't be militias....

So to whoever wants to join my militia, see you over at Hooter's k

The Militia has 3 core goals.

1) Repel Invasions, Supress Insurections.
2) Assist the Governor and/or Local Sheriff when called to do so.
3) Act a a deterant to Tyranny, Should peaceful means of redress fail, Restore the Republican Form of government in tune with the US Constitution; With Force if needed.

2nd Amendment:

"A well regulated milita; being nessessary to the security of a free state; the right of the people to keep and bear arms; shall not be infringed."

Goal # 3 is looking like an option should the 2010 elections not be held for 1 reason or another.

*Note to Government, Remember your oath, you will be held accountable for your failures. Legally and within the confines of the Constitution.
