I left school in '82.

I didn't get my first 'proper' job till '87.

There were no apprenticeships, nothing in my local area...all the manufacturing sites had been shut down thanks to Thatcher and her policies.

The North East of England was a desolate wasteland.

No more mines.
No more shipyards.
No more steel mills.
No manufacturing at all.
She and her cohorts decimated this whole region.

We weren't the only one's who suffered, but ain't anywhere else that suffered worse.

Unless you were here, or somewhere similar, you can not begin to imagine the hurt, distress and suffering she caused.

And Cameron will do the exact same thing if he get's a chance to further their own private agenda and to line the pockets of those whose pockets are already overfull but they just want more and more and all at our expense and pain.
The leaders of the Conservative Party are evil and insidiuous and care not a jot for the ordinary Britsh people.

Forgot to say that the delectable and unhibited delights of the promised Amazonian Tribe and the partaking of natural and enhancing substances for initiation purposes will have to wait until the completion of my sacred duties as an Elder of The Association of Really Secret Enigma's and The Holy Order of Latvian Esoteric Scholars, aka, ARSEHOLES for short.

We have our ancient ritulistic duties to perform for The May Day celebrations.

I can not divulge the exact details of these duties but suffice to say that they involve nubile virgins, phallic objects and amyl nitrate.

Sorry to hear about your wife, but I find what you said hard to believe unless it's because you're working then it will usually affect what benefits you can claim. Usually it's based on whether the doctor thinks you're fit for work or not. Yes! there are plenty of genuine people, but unfortunately there are plenty of immigrants & youth who have no interest in working and they make up the majority of Labour supporters. Under the Tories they will have to work for their benefits which is how it should be.

There's two types of DLA
Higher rate £49.10
Lower rate £18.65

I'm not sure what your finding hard to believe. She gets the lower DLA which is the amount I said she got £18.65. The point I was making is that this labour government have seen fit to send her a letter to tell her it has gone up by 30p.

Now is it by chance that this has happened a few days before voting. Has everyones lower DLA gone up by 30p this week ? If so its a synical attempt to buy votes.

And also to increase an allowance by 30p doesnt even seem worth the effort. The cost involved in making the change such as writing out to everyone it doesnt make any sense.

I once worked in government office which paid cheques out to people, When I got there they would send a cheque for even a penny if that was what was due. I suggested they should have a minimum amount and after some discussion it was agreed that cheques would only be sent for amounts of £1 or more. I still thought was a bit low, but at least it was step in th right direction.

I just cant figure how a supposedly socialist government minister can sit down and decide to give anybody a raise of 30p ... it's ludicrous.

Labour gave up the facade of being 'socialist' when John Smith died / was killed.

They are a pale imitation of the party they once were and the ideals they aspired to.

The Benefit System as whole has become a complete and utter farce.

And you touch on another pertinent point with all goverment run agencies / departments etc.
They are managed by people who know nothing but the public sector and refuse to employ managers who have learnt their trade in the dog eat dog world that is the private sector where people tend to be judged on ability and results.

Everything New Labour does is about spin & winning votes and they don't care how low they have to go to get them. Look at the women who Brown called a bigot, apparently Gordon Brown tried desperately to get her to shake hands in front of the cameras, but she refused and at the same time was absolutely disgusted and rightly so. Gordon Brown has no shame whatsoever. I for one can't wait to see the back of this moron. He gives me the creeps.

Well I know what you mean as I've lived in the NE of England all my life and mainly worked as a labourer and like you said there isn't much else, but it's the same under any government, be they Tory or New Labour. They just don't give a damn about this area. When it comes to voting, what choice do we have. They're all as bad as each other. I'm certainly not going to vote for New labour, so who else is there apart from the Tories and Lib dems. They are the only ones who can beat New Labour?

I don't think I've ever been as depressed as I am now under this government and honestly it makes no difference because no matter who you vote for things will just continue to get worse, as the damage has already been done. Regardless of who we blame, I see bleak times ahead.

Well the Tories have had their chance and blown it, as have New Labour, so maybe it's time to give the Lib Dems a go. I normally vote Lib Dem, but I can't stand Clegg. I wish Charles Kennedy was still leader, even if he is an alcoholic. It would be quite amusing having an alcoholic prime minister
