CHICAGO -- Two Illinois lawmakers say violence has become so rampant in Chicago that the National Guard must be called in to help.

Chicago Democratic Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford made a public plea to Gov. Pat Quinn on Sunday to deploy troops.

Fritchey says Chicago has had 113 homicide victims this year. He says the police department has done a commendable job, but its resources are stretched thin.

What are these people thinking? Not about the fact that we don't want military on our streets, obviously. These people are elected officials that make important policy decisions everyday and this is what they want? I can't believe this is the best idea they came up with. Send in the Guard, sure, no problem, whats wrong with these people?

They're in over their heads and trying to cope with a really bad situation. CPD is outgunned 10-1 and stretched rediculously thin. Not saying the NG is the answer, but I can understand why they would want the quick, easy way out after what happened last week - a lot of the citizenry is in panic mode.
