What about all of the lives you're going to need to prevent in order to stave off the overpopulation you'll need to prevent... or impoverish... one way or another... in order for your class of superhumans to exist? Surely a 'god of creation' might object to that??
I never condoned such a thing...in fact, my hope is that through such advancement and fusion with technology, we will solve a lot of problems...however you seem to think it will cause more problems than it's worth. I say, the world is in such a terrible state, there's no harm in trying when the probability of success is high...and if we fail, unlucky. We are an intelligent species, there's no need to stay stagnant...we may as well be ants in that case...

We are an intelligent species, however, if we need to rely on technology to solve all of our problems, then perhaps we need to reevaluate ourselves.

How do you believe technology will lift us out of the terrible state that the world is currently in?

One could say that technology is making the world a worse place in many instances.

From surveillance, to destruction, to creating health related problems throughout the first world, technology is responsible.

In many ways, certain technology is only serving to enslave us. If our technological evolution was actually used to help humanity, that would be one thing. Unfortuantely, the majority of technology is almost always in the wrong hands and is inevitably used against us in some form or another.

As of right now, the majority of our technological feats are used for war, surveillance, and profiteering. Even technology like television, gaming consoles, and the internet has played a negative role in the health of human beings throughout the first world. Diabetetes, heart disease and obesity are at an all time high. For the first time in history, many scientists believe that parents will outlive their own children. That is a scary reality.

Right now there are people who dedicate their entire lives to developing military technology in which the only purpose of this technology is to kill other human beings. Doesn't anyone else see anything wrong with that? How is that a positive?

The government uses technology to monitor its citizenry. They have even developed new technology capable of reading a human beings mind. How is that a good thing? I thought people here valued freedom. That doesn't sound like freedom to me. It sounds like an Orwellian nightmare.

In many instances, the very same technology we constantly praise, is actually serving to enslave us.

After viewing the video, I can tell you one thing that came to mind:

I sure hope that at least one "good guy" attains the same level of power.

I might be nice to have somebody on our side.

Oh the people that think the internet is a bunch of tubes, and the atom was discovered but not invented, want to be gods.
They want to transcend humanity to be gods intresting stuff. Hopefully they would of transcended enough to use google to translate this into text.

Not likely. Part of their godhood involves them being hooked into the machine hivemind. Once anyone joins in, it will be highly unlikely they'll be coming back to humanity. Masses of these creatures all brainwashing each other collectively. And these people call this progress.

"We'll become gods..if you don't like it we'll have warfare"

we started as gods from more than one direction.
those who choose to sue a side (suicide) practice warfare, and suffer amnesia for it.

look at those who support war.
don't know where they come from.
don't know where they are going.

look at those who pass a fist as a pacifist. pointing to the conflict, and doing little to resovle it, waiting for a hero they refuse to accept.
pacifist ...
don't know where they came from.
don't know where they are going.

following either to their nth degree = suicide/death

forgive us if it's your soul we coax
but some of know: death is a hoax

New news, via the New York Times:

The university represents the more concrete side of the Singularity, and focuses on introducing entrepreneurs to promising technologies. Hundreds of students worldwide apply to snare one of 80 available spots in a separate 10-week “graduate” course that costs $25,000. Chief executives, inventors, doctors and investors jockey for admission to the more intimate, nine-day courses called executive programs.

Both courses include face time with leading thinkers in the areas of nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, energy, biotech, robotics and computing.

On a more millennialist and provocative note, the Singularity also offers a modern-day, quasi-religious answer to the Fountain of Youth by affirming the notion that, yes indeed, humans — or at least something derived from them — can have it all.

they should really divide up science like religion. one side could be science for the benefit of mankind and the other, science for the benefit of themsevles. this comment clearly shows what side this guy is on...

this idea of being gods is preposterous, ya becoming immortal, ok
becoming all knowing.... thats a big stretch of the imagination there

well i guess with god anything is possible
whoops! i meant with "science" anything is possible

(edit to replace "that" with "they")

Hmmm.. the path of technology, super human or sub human? Seems like the same area as genetic engineering to me. I hear this kind of # is pretty popular in some parts of the universe.

No thanks, I'll stay organic.. all this power is available to us as is and much more rewarding to develop, not to mention far superior.

I wonder what these transhumanists think about the nano-bots in their chemtrails?

A simplistic view , a dualistic view si not a view of a "high being" : this is just tyranny of the fool, the godlike foolish of the SELF.

The form of the society : the gods society is the problem here.

BUt i don't know if you can understand, sociology, psychology ...

Humans will merge with machine in the future, this is the destiny of our species. The organic body is too fragile to sustain humanity. The process will be a gradual one, it's not something that will happen over night. In the near future it will begin with robotic limbs and synthetic organs. No one can say with complete certainty which step will take place after that, but I believe it will be the movement of human consciousness to artificial bodies.

I would certainly love to have an artificial body. Imagine what you could accomplish with an indefinite lifespan. Entire libraries could be read without regard for time. Polymaths would become a common phenomenon. Personally, I think it would bring our species to a completely new level of intellectualism and understanding.
