I watched this last night and thought this makes sense. I love the "tea bagger" hat he is wearing, but the rant is even better. If we want to cut the deficit, we need to start with the obscene military spending. Please watch the video before commenting.

As the subject on the most recent installment of "Real Time" moved to the retirement of Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, the HBO host actually said that it was the Republican Party that has changed in the past thirty or forty years and not Stevens' view of the world.

BILL MAHER, HOST: You know what's ironic is that you know who's really a moderate Republican by '70s standards? Barack Obama.

GRAYSON: It's true.

MAHER: Barack Obama, you know, I mean, I'm glad he's getting this financial reform package through but it does not include something that I think we would all think is the main point of it. I'm not an economist but I do understand the phrase "too big to fail," which means banks are just too big. Like 20 years ago the top six banks had like seventeen percent of the business of Americans and now they have like 63 percent. That bill does not address too big to fail. Just like the healthcare bill did not have a public option. It was more like the bill that Bob Dole tried to get through when he was dealing with the Clintons in 1994. A liberal Democrat so-called like Barack Obama today is really a moderate Republican of yesteryear.

I agree with 99.9% of what you said. I still think Bill Maher is a smart man, in spite of the fact that he does lean a bit too far left for my tastes. I just think that his "logical" conclusions are only as good as the information he has.

Both sides of the political spectrum are trying hard to push the propoganda that the tea party is a right-wing conservative movement. All MSM seem to trot out a picture of Sarah Palin whenever they talk about the tea party. If the truth of the tea party movement were allowed to be seen, people would realize it's comprised mainly of people who are fed up with the false left-right dog and pony show that we are being spoon fed. That could throw a wrench into the rigged two-party scam we're dealing with today. It would be harder to rig the voting machines when you can't predict the voting demographics of a particular region. Just think about the 2004 election in Florida with a third party wild card candidate. Which counties do you rig the voting machines to not count?

I doubt Maher has seriously spoken with any true tea party people. As I said, I think he would be smart enough to see that they are in line with what he preaches. He just needs to let go of the conservative / liberal bull that he is getting from CNN, FOX, and MSNBC, and talk to real people who don't have party affiliations.
