A very interesting article from CNN about the adult entertainment industry and it's use of current technology.

CNN) -- It was just days after the release of the iPad -- Apple's slate computer heralded as a tool for gaming, book and magazine reading and Web consumption -- when the announcement arrived.

One of the world's biggest porn companies claimed it had created a way to stream its videos onto the device, skipping the Apple store and its restrictions on salacious content.

The announcement illustrates a widely acknowledged but seldom-spoken truth of the technology world: Whenever there's a new content platform, the adult-entertainment industry is one of the first to adopt it -- if they didn't help create it in the first place.

"It's not necessarily that the porn industry comes up with the ideas, but there's a huge difference in any technology between the idea and the successful application," said Jonathan Coopersmith, a professor at Texas A&M University who teaches the history of technology.

"They're kind of the shock troops, and one of the nice things for them is that they can claim, 'Hey, I'm advancing technology.' "

While the shadowy nature of the adult-entertainment industry makes exact figures hard to nail down, it's generally acknowledged that porn was the first product to make money on the Internet and still rakes in upward of $1 billion annually online.

Rest of the article here.

So what are your thoughts ATS?

I lean towards agreeing with the article. It makes sense to me. The "risky" business venture is bound to always be the first to attempt to squeeze a profit out of a new product.

That and porn will ALWAYS be around.

The first public screening of a movie was in 1895. Less than two years later, Coopersmith notes, the first "adult" film was released.

"The classic example is the VCR," said Oliver Marc Hartwich, an economist and senior fellow with Centre for Independent Studies, a conservative Australian think tank. "When it was introduced, Hollywood was nervous because the big studios feared piracy. They were even considering suing the VCR producers.

"Not so the adult industry. They saw it as a big new market and seized the opportunity."

This is a great example. I remember reading about privacy and the VCR. I can't believe that actual contemporary pornography has been around since 1895. That's quite the longstanding business.

Ha ha.

Aint it funny ?
Most of the porn comes straight from the states. The only country where people don't watch that filthy stuff

I believe the VCR was so succesful because the other system did not include porn.

Nah, that's just a stupid urban legend some websites created when the BluRay vs. HD-DVD war started. Most of those websites reported that the porn industry favours HD-DVD so that format should win the war. We all know what happened.
VHS just won because it had more tape length than Betamax, so Hollywood favoured VHS for their movies.

Since the porn industry really is a industry and makes billions of dollars, of course they're always on the forfront when it comes to new technologies and possibilities to even make more money

I learned this particular thing way before the first DVD was for sale.

The Beta max system had in fact a better quality and you could also turn it around and use the other side to.

The only thing they did wrong was that they did not allow porn .
This was in a Time where video stores were popping up like crazy. You could hire your movies and thanks to VHS also your porn.

This made VHS won the battle.

In comparison the BETAMAX system was a better system.
But why would you by a system that doesn't even play porn ?

Honestly I don't even own a HD-DVD or Blue Ray system.
But the same thing happened here.
Blue Ray has won. Why ? Because they work with the most popular thing around. PlayStation.

In fact even the CD wasn't for sale back then.
( Which was a Dutch invention by the way. Sold by philips to sony. Dumbassses )

there are a lot of Testosterone junkies out there. this hormone is addictive, similar to adrenaline which effects provide emergency gas. Testosterone also activates competetiveness, and it is pretty easy to spot a adrenaline junkie over reaction, over bearing traits come to mind, Testosterone symptoms would include deceit, betrayal, force, competativeness - in my opinion Testosterone is one hell of a hormone and I believe they activate and program the masses by use of this thing called PORN - which is reinforced with magazines - Tv - and fashion.
if you want a spike in child porn then you arrest people doing child porn and you will have a million more line up to be arrested. tell a human what not to do and he will do it ...

So WHO do you think is behind the porn industry? Who created it and made it as big as it is? Who wants to distract and warp and twist the minds of the next generation so they can't think straight or comprehend anything more than "let's f_#k"!!

I know who it is, do you? And the ain't Americans.

I really, really like to say.

Do not forget oestrogen. The female hormone.

Cause when all things come to an end, it's women who rule the world.
Just imagin what the world would be like when the men would not have been under the influence of women.

It's probably the biggest conspiracy of all time.
Cause when you put some men together, they will drink a beer and tell each other the most exagerated stories and hunt together.

If you put a woman in their midst. All of a sudden testosterone gets the better of them and they will start fighting. All victimised by the influence of women. ( Unless you're gay(not you) of course. I don't really know how this would add up then. )

God, I love women !

I am only commenting, because I question why there are two postings with the exact title, but posted by two different ATS members.

How is this possible and why is it allowed? Perhaps I am suppose to read both, but why the same title posting?

Thanks for the posting.

Please I'd like to know who is responsible for the fact I spend more time on ATS then I do copulating.

What's wrong with it anyway.
It is not without purpose it's such a nice way to spend time.
I mean like active doing so. With or without porn.

People created the Porn industry out of DEMAND. It really is that simple.

Sex sells, always has and always will.

I don't see the problem here. There's nothing wrong with porn when consenting adults are the ones filming, producing and starring in it. All parties involved are ok with it.

Sure there are addictions, but that happens with anything.

It's none of our business what adults want to do behind closed doors, with cameras on for money.

What we now call porn did not just arise with the dawn of the movie industry. If you go back and look at the very first non tool things that men made, they were figures of supple naked women -- they are referred to as "fertility goddesses" by the "experts", but we all know what they really were.

Old news. Adult Entertainment is always the first to use a new technology. Ever since there was porn (thousands of years ago), those in the industry were the pioneers in the newest of technologies. That's just how it is.

Also, if you want to know what the newest and greatest tech is, just pay attention to what the porn industry is using. Good way to stay ahead!
