lol @ Muzzleflash. I'm going to start a thread about thread-whoring, triple posting, and start dishing out PUIs (posting impaired charges).

that is a major part of the problem on ATS at the moment :

instead of actually supplying evidence for the claim - so many people fall back to the dammed lazy , ignorant position of expecting any one skeptical of the claim to " proove the negative "

FFS - a foundation course in formal logic should be mandatory

as i posted on one of the origional threads - the very nature and structure of the claim [ guy who filmed the polish crash aftermath assasinated ] SHOULD have raised instant skepticism of it - but no - it was a conspiracy claim and cast the " evil russians " as the villans - so many people instantly bought it

I didnt view it as a problem on ATS, as it is a collective of many many minds all over the world, with access to many many sources of information.
It's a co operative correct?
I never have a problem with researching topics I'm interested in,
and I dont trust single source as solid proof, of anything.
My goodness we'd be believing everything if we were that way wouldnt we?
Although in this day and age who is to truly know what info is wiped away, covered up, distorted, or for that matter true.
So IS THERE a source that proves the assassination true OR false?

Because I cant find one either way!

I have almost stopped coming here because I'm tired of seeing ignorant threads rise to the top while good threads only get a few replies and fall into the void. Groupthink has pretty much taken over. It's disgusting, really.

Hey ATS. After seeing this thread www.abovetopsecret.com... soar to the front page I am completely baffled as to how so many members (respected ATS'ers included) could take information from a BLOG and take it as fact without digging any deeper.

I always hear people toting around ATS saying deny ignorance yet there are certain threads where that motto gets completely thrown out the window.

Not only was that particular thread topic posted a day earlier but it was also shown that the information on the blog was nothing more than a rumor.

"The author of video was not killed - it was a rumor. Via web forum in Smolensk we contacted a person who claims - author of the video is a guy who works at the auto service near by to the site of the tragedy. User Aml says he is alive and nothing has happened to him. It appears that the info about 'Adrij Mendierej death' was an internet rumor. We apologize for bringing the false information in" - wolnemedia(dot)net

I know I'll probably get flamed for this but that's fine with me. So what is it ATS deny ignorance or only when we feel like it.

Any thoughts?

I am really suspecting that ATS is a CIA cyberwarfare front probably like wikileaks.

I find it even more baffling that people think bloggers are all ignorant liars.
Perhaps they don't feel the need to cite sources for their readers.
Honestly, they just throw their theories and opinions out there for public consumption and feedback, just like we all do here. This is coming off as another hate thread towards ATS and it's motto..and it's tiring and been done a million times. Denying ignorance is up to you. If you want sources or more info..GO FIND THEM. Deny ignorance doesn't mean ATS hands you all the answers to everything on a silver platter.User generated content. You are just as much of a user as anyone else. Do you have all the answers? "Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for life" ATS teaches you how to fish.

Noone is saying bloggers are liars but bloggers are not accredited as reliable source of information. Bloggers only blog about views with preconceived notions and not news.

►A blog (a contraction of the term "web log") is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary ...
►Blog is a website that allows users to reflect, share opinions, and discuss various topics in the form of an online journal while readers may comment on ...
en.wikipedia.org...

It is surprising that even after the information is proven as hoax the thread still remains.

There is a reason for that. I have noticed that a lot of people only read the headline in the OP and maybe a few of the earlier post then jump in at the end of 9 pages with their insightful posts; never even realizing that the thread has morphed into a hoax or just total BS, drama or some perverse cathartic exercise in internet exhibitionism.

Sort of like what I just did here.

I don't understand what the problem is... and it's a testament to the people on ATS. The OP is correct, there have been tons, TONS of threads started lately with inflammatory headlines supported by rediculous blogs or Websites with clear agendas (I recall one recently where the subject was 2,000,000 Americans dead due to funky corn and halfway down the same homepage there was a story linked about how Israel is spreading porn in Gaza as they kill innocents or some such turd).

Is it not a testament to ATS that these threads typically die a quick death? That inside of another page of me posting that observation, at least a dozen others had dug enough to call b.s.?

Jumping the gun or trying to distract with disinformation is not new... what is, is having a site like this where people sift through of their own accord and call people out that post such nonsense.

The mere fact that the OP recognizes this trend is proof that the system (at least the one on ATS) works...

Sometimes threads go on for a few pages before everyone catches on... but those worth their salt DO catch on, and move on to better threads.

One thing that needs to get through the heads of many members here is that bias (for us Americans) is ignorance. There is a plague of threads bashing either side. Same goes for religious arguments (Just accept different opinions for once!). There must be a lot of kids joining lately (I'm not too old myself but I think I've gotten the picture
). I come here less and less because of so many retarded threads making it to the top hits list and then when I go read replies on many of the actually useful threads, I am often disappointed by unthoughtful or bias opinions.

Then, as the person above me said, people tend to "jump the gun" instantly and sensationalize these straw-man claims that either try to twist obscure facts to fuel some nonsensical conspiracy saying "The government is out to get me!" or to get stars and flags.

Please people, give us a break!

Maybe its just me..

I believe the main problems are subject to watered down scientific or journalism ethics. It is absolutely clear that a blog always is, and always will be a display of personal opinion. It is a personal log and therefore it is meant to be subjective. It doesn't mean that information from blogs is automatically wrong or at least that there isnt at least something behind it. Since mainstream media doesnt care about journalism anymore.. alternative media is actually the only viable option.

On the other side: What do people consider to be "reliable" mainstream news sources. I mean how reliable are these informations? 100%? Certainly not. Are there always sources stated in mainstream media? Certainly not. Ever heard anyone ask for sources for an article or statement coming from mainstream media? I really doubt it. This is essentially part of the problem. Journalism has come to a free ticket for that mumbo jumbo circus.

How many times have we been deceived by "reliable" news sources when it comes to critical topics.

The general mechanism of denying ignorance is obviously accomplished by posting news and people verifying the facts behind these events.

You will always have people who are pathologically ignoring major or minor paradoxons in their own ideology or a certain event or topic. There isnt much which can be done about it. For instance: A radical, racist, or somehow disrespectful person who does not value other individuals equally will always be able to continue posting within important topics on ATS, no matter what. This is, despite the fact that it can be annoying, part of freedom of speech.

I'm not only referring to racism. It can be all sorts of ideologies: Like unhealthy, exagerrated forms of "patriotism". Or group dynamics like: A group or nationality having the same "enemy image" or superior feeling over any other nationality/region/country.

If faulty ideologies color perception and posts on certain topics that's just natural, at least for some people. Even though that kind of spiritually worthless type of opinions, posts or statements will always be around. We should enjoy that there are still many news events verified and that there are many critical, healthy individuals actually contributing to the greater cause of denying ignorance.
