OMFG.

news.ninemsn.com.au...

Senior staffers at the Securities and Exchange Commission spent hours surfing pornographic websites on government-issued computers while they were being paid to police the financial system, an agency watchdog says.

The SEC's inspector general conducted 33 probes of employees looking at explicit images in the past five years, according to a memo obtained late on Thursday by The Associated Press.

The memo says 31 of those probes occurred in the 2 years since the financial system teetered and nearly crashed.

Way to go guys, just couldn't wait to get home, eh?

A senior attorney at the SEC's Washington headquarters spent up to eight hours a day looking at and downloading pornography. When he ran out of hard drive space, he burned the files to CDs or DVDs, which he kept in boxes around his office. He agreed to resign, an earlier watchdog report said.

An accountant was blocked more than 16,000 times in a month from visiting websites classified as "Sex" or "Pornography." Yet, he still managed to amass a collection of "very graphic" material on his hard drive by using Google images to bypass the SEC's internal filter, according to an earlier report from the inspector general. The accountant refused to testify in his defense and received a 14-day suspension.

Seventeen of the employees were "at a senior level," earning salaries of up to $US222,418 ($A239,933.12).

I just have no words. Oh yes- disgust. That's not strong enough. It's times like these I wish I could swear on ATS. With every cuss word I know, and the ones I forgot, too.

Hey man don't blame the guys surfing the porn!

They aren't allowed by the boss to do any real investigations see.

But they ARE allowed to investigate all that porn, apparently.

Good find, TA! S&F.

What the heck is wrong with those jerks at the SEC? Why do they need to watch porn, when they could see the whole American public getting screwed in real time if they only had been doing their jobs!?

Well, they "are" allowed to investigate, just not allowed to do anything about it.

As the Goldman Sachs debacle that we all know was going on and still is ongoing, no "criminal" charges will be filed, only civil.

The government is just pissed they did not receive their "cut" from the rip off of investors.

How dare a private company screw people. Now, with the intentional destruction of the housing market by government, who is going to file civil or criminal charges against congress, for forcing private banks to fund underfunded people for loans?

I am so sick of hearing about government malfeasance. I think it is high time some states start arresting federal officials for corruption. Something sooner or later has to happen.

Our government has brought us to the brink of destruction to take "even" more control, IMO.

I say if there is a state out there with any BALLS, they start placing charges on their representatives and other federal bureaucrats for corruption and malfeasance charges.

When will this crap end?

Really? I thought the SEC had full prosecutorial powers ( I got that idea from the movie Wall St ).

I do know that they were warned about Bernie Madoff for 8 years but did nothing...

In the SEC's own words:

The SEC is a law enforcement and regulatory agency that protects the integrity of the securities markets and the interests of investors. With approximately 3000 employees nationwide, including 1300 lawyers, the SEC is small for a federal agency, but it plays a major role in shaping national and international market policy.

Their mission statement:

Our mission is to make sure our markets are the world's fairest and most vibrant. We enforce laws which require people who raise money from investors tell the truth; our markets are honest and orderly; and the securities business serves the needs of investors. The work of the SEC touches all aspects of the public securities markets, and SEC lawyers confront a wide variety of fundamental issues early in their careers. Neither command-and-control nor laissez-faire, the SEC's guiding philosophy is one of full disclosure. The system of industry self-regulation under SEC supervision gives the agency insight into practical regulatory solutions.

And this is how much these clowns make:

Salary

The SEC has a special pay schedule comparable to the Federal banking regulators. Employees receive base pay plus a locality percentage based on their office location. The salary ranges listed below are for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Individual salary levels are determined based on your qualifications, previous legal experience, and salary history (including bonafide job offers).

One year of legal experience $75,000 to $96,000

Two years of legal experience $89,000 to $114,000

Senior/Supervisory positions $102,000 to $159,000 The SEC

rewards superior performance with advancement to a higher step within current grade, awards, and/or promotions to the next grade level.

And these are the generous benefits they receive:

Benefits

* 13 days of paid vacation annually for new federal employees, increasing to 26 days annually, depending on length of federal service.

* 13 days of paid sick leave annually with unlimited accumulation that can be used for personal or family care.

* 10 paid holidays each year.

* Attractive retirement system which includes a pension plan, social security and an employer-matching 401(k)-type savings plan.

* Immediate health and life insurance coverage, including a range of provider choices to fit your needs.

* Flexible work schedules.

Ooops! They forgot to mention the time allotted for porn.

I am wondering if this is the first or second salvo in the BRIBERY component?

As SKL has so expertly postulated, is the internet set up to be one of the control parameters of the power behind the power?

Here we have the SEC getting a fat upper lip in a report, then the SEC files CIVIL (not criminal charges-I just want everyone to chew on that for a bit) charges against GS, then this report comes out.

I think the best thing could happen in all this is the two snakes, bankster crooks and the government in bed with them, could eat each other and destroy themselves.

Time to rid ourselves of these two corrupt entities anyway.

If you've read their own web site and the history lesson they give, it should be clear that why they were formed has nothing at all to so with what they've done. Further, I don't believe for a single second that the banks could have gotten away with what they have without a Federal Reserve and SEC to help facilitate it. Prior to the establishment of these two agencies, it was the run on banks and banks reaction to that that caused such concern.

My question is why are people who live in poverty required to have a bank account? They aren't legally required, of course, but banks will harass and make as difficult as possible those who go into the bank with their pay checks to cash the check, and even though the contract between bank, employer and employee is that the employee will accept check over cash because the bank will honor that check...if they want to. First they will engage in their own extortion's in an attempt to fore someone who has no real use for a bank to get an account.

None of this non sense existed prior to a Federal Reserve and SEC. Who are these agencies looking out for? They are for fairness are they? Yeah!

yes, and these guys deserve these nice big salaries because they "work so hard".... I get corpal tunnel from printing banners all day, they get it from getting their kicks off of porn!!

they're so fast to go after those who they find kiddie porn on their computers, even if it's a computer that was stolen a year before!! I do hope that if they find any on these computers, they will go after them with the same amount of gusto! but, they probably won't....they were probably just following the orders that were handed down to them from the top!

as far as the two snakes turning on each other....well, they've bled the common folk to the point where there isn't that much more they can get from them...if they want more money, they are gonna have to pick out those among their own to bleed.

I've been wondering for quite awhile now, we have a bunch of viruses inhabiting computers, some of which they still don't know what they are doing. they've let these porn sites, along with the file sharing sites go on with business practically unchallenged, but then go after the users of these sites, usually kids. well...is it possible, that well, some of these viruses are set up so that they can later be used to frame those they chose to bleed??
and maybe these guys weren't porn freaks but rather someone just needs a few scapegoats now, to divert attention to the fact that they've manufactured a large fortune out of thin air and left us with the tab!
