forgot comic title need help

its a mini series about a light that crashes on earth and 100 people get superpowers. some are good some are bad some stay the same bc their superpower cannot be adapted for heroics. one of the baddies learns that by killing another powered human he and the rest absorb the powers, so he goes on a killing spree. it comes down to a 1:1 death-match and of course the hero wins, but i cant remember the title to the book. does anyone know what im talking about.

But the light thing at the beginning of your post also made me think of Marvel's New Universe with StarBrand , NightMask, etc. The story began with a flash of light seen worldwide and called the White Event, which gave some people superpowers. But I didn't see it through the end, so...
