Just came across this on google mars, to me it looks like a cave entrance to some sort of dome as you can see the outline that the terrain is higher than the ground around it.

What does everyone else think it is?

Holy crap. Looks man made to me. Was this image taken by the orbiter?

I think so i just found another one very close to the first, again it is situated by some form of dome.

Huge speculation now, but hey what can you do.

Does anyone else agree this looks like a ship which has landed and caused a blast radius?
This is near the supposed caves aswell

That one looks like a black spot someone put on the image to hide something.

Looks like, but it's not. There is a thread somewhere on ATS that shows it from 2 separate satellite images taken at different times. In the other image, you can see one side of the "hole" is sunlit. If I find it, I will post it here.

Found an image of it close up, with sunlit side:

doesn't look that way to me, but then i guess someone would go through the five minute trouble of dodging and burning hole-lip shadows etc into an image to hide something.

And the dome looks like it has some sort of logo on it. Very interesting...

Looks like 2-3 layers faded on top of each other in PhotoShop. Then again, it could even be a cave in Mars.
Possibly formed by melting water finding running paths underground through soft earth? Or dug by a Martian creature?

I find it strange they're releasing all these weird pictures, yet not reporting any weird discoveries...

I believe its just a natural formation, the edges of the dome shape are too irregular to be 'man made', the 'blast off' site looks rather cool though.

Looks like sinkholes to me, although I'd love to think ufo's fly out of there when we're not looking.

In the first few pictures I don't see anything to indicate any depth to those darker areas. It just looks like dark streaking of... something... and that other hole sure is dark. It would be nice to know how far down it reaches and why it doesn't (visibly) fill up with martian dust.

Just a darker area, like many other areas on Mars, specially inside craters.

Probably that darker dust is heavier and that's why it accumulates inside craters.

These are amazing and thought provoking pictures.

Haydn, don't you think that if NASA or JPL or whoever were covering anything up they wouldn't release these pics as-is?

Hey Expat,

J.P. Skipper of Marsanomalyresearch has stated that he believes - in certain circumstances - artificial holes added to the image have been used to hide objects in the mars imagery.

*....Of course, all the NASA believers need is just one single comment originating from NASA or an associated professional to believe that it truly is a hole and all other theories are bunk.

As they all know; unlike every other government agency, NASA does not lie or otherwise deceive us in anyway. They are a Paragon of Virtue and Honesty.

caves on mars ? hell yes i believe there is no logical impediment to thier existance [ though to be exact , i belive that lava tubes , will be more likley than phreatic / vadose cave systems ] - and thanks to the lower gravity and atmospheriuc pressures - they ( the lava tubes ) would be more extensive and lagrger than the ones found on earth
