This cam is North of Hekla and looks South towards Eyjafjallajokull.

Hekla has NOT gone off.

This link to quake watch shows the latest quake map. There is nothing.

MSNBC would seem to think otherwise: "BREAKING NEWS: Large plume indicates second Icelandic volcano, Hekla, has begun erupting"

Only a banner at the moment, but I agree that this would confirm it..

EDIT TO SAY: OOPS..

Alysha, why is there no indication on the Icelandic seismic sites then?

No activity, no tremors, no reports.

Look here - nothing en.vedur.is...

That was my first thought too, Puterman, which was why I didn't react more when I originally saw the camera.

It appears now that maybe it HAS gone off. Wish we were wrong though, if it has, this certainly is indicating more of a trend towards the rest of the volcanos reacting....not a suprise by any means, but we could always hope!

I took a screen shot of the plume but can't for the life of me figure out how to convert it to a bit map, or post it on here. Oh well!

Hopefully this is just some steam venting (looks light colored), and nothing major will come of it. I don't it's time to panic yet though, even IF it has woken up....it is not the real threat.

This is silly folks. There is nothing on the Icelandic papers, nothing on the seismic sites, nothing on the tremor plots and nothing on the quake maps.

Hekla is not erupting

If it was the tremors would be showing at HAU and the quake maps would be going mad. I monitor all of these every 10 minutes and believe me it is not erupting yet.

Alysha the seismic sites update every 5 minutes in real time.
