HMS Ark Royal seems to me to be pretty much unsuited for this type of operation.. but then again won't be there for a couple of Days, hence why I feel she is more, show the flag rather than real help..

HMS Ocean and HMS Albion are designed to cope with Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations, especially if their vehicle wells, lower flight decks are clear..

HMS Bulkwark (Albions sister ship) completed such an operation for real with 3 rifles in the evacuation of British civilians from Lebanon in 2006.. and 3 rifles and Bulwark have trained in similar scenarios within the Joint Warrior excercises (which Ark Royal has just left to take part in this evacuation)..

Hence the deja vu moment when I heard that Ark Royal was breaking off from Operation Join Warrior 2010, and that 3 Rifles where on the scene, being picked up by HMS Albion.

Hand on heart I would say this is a PR stunt for the Gov... Tho as far as air and sea cover goes they are in a very closely watched area..
