Deny Ignorance ?

Endorse Ignorance. How else can we ethically purchase goods manufactured in conditions like these.

What can we ever do about it

It really was the arrogant, closed fist of oppression that Apple presented that allowed Microsoft to gain a foot hold. Here we are years later, and the tables have indeed turned. Apple and Linux is the underdog, and Microsoft is the closed fist of oppression. How do you think this is going to turn out?

One of the big reasons why Apple never had a chance against Microsoft is Games.
Apple never wanted Computer Games on their Mac, because they thought that would make their Macs seem like toys, while they wanted to be all about businness and office PCs.
And while Computer games got more and more popular on Amiga, Atari ST and of course Dos-based PCs, Apple lagged behind more and more up until now. No Games = no Sells, you can't sell a Computer without games, that's how it was in the 80's and that's how it is now.

I'm about to work in the games industry, so i know something about computers and i have used everything. I have a Mac and a Windows XP PC and let me tell you: The Windows PC is in all ways better. It's reliable and if you know something about how to install Windows and Software, how to mantain your PC and how to secure it (Router are way better than Software-Firewalls) then XP works just fine (Vista sucks and 7 is still to new to be good)
On the other hand with my Mac, i can't tell how many Problems i had with Mac OSX. Random crashes and the beloved "spinning wheel of death" and Updates from Apple that crash the system or change the OS Version in a way that a lot software doesn't run anymore. It all happened in the past few years. The botched OSX Update even made big headlines in newspapers.

As for China: I said it already in another topic about chinese workers: If you look hard enough you can find overworked people in every country. That's just the way it is
And like i said in that Topic: Electronic Arts made their employees work seven days a week and up to 100 hours in a week and that was not in China but the United States.

Dear order in chaos

Who ever wrote this doesn’t know Asia at all or they have some big beef with Microsoft.

Do not get worked up about it in anyway, simply this is natural for an Asian worker to fell asleep on any break.

Not normal nothing to see here move along.

[edit on 17-4-2010 by MAC269]

while falling asleep in almost any place be in work or train is common in all over asia, the work hours, the pay and the break and the heat is not something we should just be " MOVING ALONG TO" .......Nothing to see here ....except for maybe the stats the OP just listen....

o no but since you say he has something against them we should not even value or look at the stats.....nope lets just sweep it under the rug...

I mean .1% was wrong so i guess that means we should throw out the 99.9% of the truth because .1% doesn't fit....

^ is pretty much how things get F'd up in our country......more people than you know actually think like this....it's very very ignorant.

In REALITY we seriously are talking about "LACK OF SECURITY"

No wonder why Microsoft windows is the WORST operating system known to man

This is the obvious reason why the GOVERNMENT does not use
"Microsoft's stupidity" Only people who have NO IDEA about computers use
microsoft windows

That's the reason why it's on every damn computer you find in america and around the world.

People have NO clue about computers at all and NEVER will have a damned clue because MOST people are inherently stupid.

more blahblah snipped....

Actually, those who do know about computers, realize that Windows is a pretty solid OS. Because of what it does: which is allow cross-functionality between many different pieces of software. Linux, Apple/Mac, whatever else you may try to herald as the greatest OS ever, also has plenty of security issues. As do Internet browsers like Firefox. They are just not targeted nearly as often. The badware folks go for the largest customer-base. i.e. MS.

I'm a network guy of over 25 years, and work for a large environmental/construction firm, and there is no way we could run the company under another OS. The sheer # of 3rd party program we use... to try and support those under another OS like Linux? Never going to happen, it would be impossible.

The truth is that while MS does have plenty of security holes, they patch them quickly - the biggest issues I see are customers not doing updates. Often, because they think they are "bad," ironically enough. Their networking is also very solid.

Many of the software packages you assume are "good" are usually not. Norton (Symantec), Trend, McAfee, all are terrible protection for PCs. They just bog it down horribly. It's funny that a free product like Malwarebytes blow those out of the water.

But anyways... you try to do the things a real business does on a different OS, see how far you get. When I have someone in the field, trying to connect via an aircard to VPN, to connect to our servers to get data.. or using some small third-party software in Prague, trying to work with our servers in LA, the MS OS makes it actually work. Only someone living in some ignorant fantasy world thinks that an OS like Linux could actually do these things.. and be remotely supported.

Yes, we do use Linux for some multi-processor tasks, and we have a few servers here and there with something else for specialized tasks. But for the bulk of our work (98% of it probably), we'd be screwed if we didn't have Windows.

Also, I don't get the hate towards Gates. He is a nerd, sure.. very strict about his employees (in the U.S.), but he and his wife are great humanitarians as well. They put a LOT of time and a LOT of money towards decent causes.

I just read your OP and I realized I had my hand on my Microsoft mouse... kind of wondering who made it... who touched it, before I did... Do any of us stop to think about the things we use everyday and where they were made, and who made them?

Nobody is forcing these people at gunpoint to work in these hellish conditions. If they hate it, then quit. Find something else to do.

I'm sure a lot of the workers are happy to be doing it, and live just fine off they money they are paid.

Really?

Would you like to have some of your kin working here? I understand that this is asia but come on. Humans are humans. This is slave labor no matter how you slice it!

This is what I never understood about these countries, why do they put up with living like this? Maybe I'm just to firm in my ways to be treated like this. These people act like the countries "own" them or something. I myself would choose death over living like that. If I was ever reborn into a country that treated me so bad and didn't care about me as living independent human being many would go to the grave with me. Just my feelings, life is to short as it is to be treated like you were a robot making money for some scum bag leader. I say down with china. But no the wonderful representatives we have in this country wanna be friends with everyone.

I think the biggest point here is that this is Microsoft....It's a juxtapose.
Slave Labor vs The Gates foundation.
Hypocrisy at its finest.

Anyone who has worked in China like I have knows this is standard practice for most workers to take knaps during breaks. This type of blatant propaganda used to demonise China is becoming much too rampant. Think people, do you really think if thinks were really that bad they'd be allowed to sleep at their desks!! Wake up, this is just another article planted in the all to accommodating media by the PTB who feel threatened by Chinas growth and increased power!

Seriously this is news ? I try very hard and even go out of my way in an attempt to purchase products not manufactured in China, but with little success. China's labor practices are no different than so many other countries that the West takes full advantage of, so where's the story here? Sure its terrible but hardly eye opening and certainly doesn't deviate from the norm.

It's not socialism, it's a capitalist dictatorship. Read some history, you might learn something.

Western workers are increasingly being expected to compete with products produced under Asian working conditions. This means we will become poorer. We are heading back to the days of the Industrial revolution.

ATS is full of stupid people but it is still good entertainment.
The Chinese and other asian countries often have work breaks where 'power naps' as we call them help you concentrate.
If any of you actiually read the news you will notice that Europeans are now promoting the same thing for work efficiency.
Still, it's nice to see there are still some idiots out there that believe the garbage you put up here about slave workers.
God - ATS is fun!

Yes they are Communist. I've seen people call them Capitalist, they're not! People speak out of ignorance. I have many friends in China that I talk with on a daily basis. My girlfriend is from Beijing and she HATES the party.

A fine example of ignorant. Plenty of Chinese work in horrible conditions. People in labor camps are forced to make a certain amount. I know what goes on. Continue being a fool.
