Madam Speaker, today I am introducing the End the Mandate Act. This legislation repeals the sections of the recently-passed health reform bill that force all Americans to purchase federally-approved health insurance plans.

Forcing every American to obtain health insurance is a blatant violation of the Constitution. Defenders of this provision claim the Congress’s constitutional authority to regulate “interstate commerce” gives Congress the power to mandate every American obtain a federally-approved health insurance plan. However, as Judge Andrew Napolitano and other distinguished legal scholars and commentators have pointed out, even the broadest definition of “regulating interstate commerce” cannot reasonably encompass forcing Americans to engage in commerce by purchasing health insurance...

Congressman Ron Paul has introduced the end the mandate act, which seeks to abolish the recent Health Care legislation ramrodded through Congress and down the throats of America.

It won't go anywhere of course but good for Ron Paul. Without the mandate they lose control of the insurance companies. I know everyone believes the insurance companies wrote the bill but its a symbiotic relationship. They put their bottom line in the hands of congress which will bring them to ruin at a time of their own choosing.

Well it sure is nice to see that we have at least one person still willing to stand up for freedom and logic in government, and all I have to say is:

What the hell would we do without Ron Paul. Honestly its like he does more good than I can even keep track of... Its sad how unintelligent people were in the 2008 vote.

This is a prime example of the major difference between the "Talkers" that just talk themselves into some political office and those that are called "Doers" who see a problem and then do something to address that problem. As such, Ron Paul and his staff have proven again that they are doers in a world of talkers and it is this type of leadership that is missing from both the Republican party membership and the communist socialist party that call themselves "Democrats." Now that's a real "Oxymoron", Democrats my arse.

What the future holds for America is anyone's guess, but in the meantime, Ron Paul is doing something for the people and everyone with half a brain will see it as more than anyone else has recommended. While others point fingers and talk a big show, Ron Paul does. See the difference?

Meanwhile, our traitor Senator and Manchurian Candidate the dishonorable John McCain is on record for pushing unconstitutional draconian communist legislation that would allow for any American to be rounded up as a belligerent because of any disagreement with the US government. This is not American and anyone who thinks McCain's bill and actions are American is a brain dead rock that deserves the death camp and crematory ovens that you will fuel with your body in just a short while soon.

No waiting for you and your kind, no waiting at all. In fact, your very temporary prison camp has been reserved for you and the crematory ovens were built with just with you in mind by a caring and loving federal government now being led by the criminal corrupt POTUS, Obama and his circus of imbeciles and clowns. Tax payer dollars went into building the FEMA death camps and death ovens, so remember that when you see the facilities first hand. Just think, that they were built with you and your fellow sheep in mind, by a group intent on killing everyone for the sake of controlling what remains.

Ron Paul, today is doing "Something", and he's not just talking the talk, he's walking the walk which is more than I can say for the other political pundits who call themselves Republicans or presidential hopefuls. It is this type of representation that the nation is in dire need of and Ron Paul has shown us again that blowing hot air and pointing fingers is for the imbeciles, he, Ron Paul has better things to do for the nation and it begins with actually doing something.

This is clue that if applied to any of the other candidates will be found missing. It is key to discerning who the talkers are and who the real doers for this nation are. To me it's as clear as the bill being proposed because it comes from a man who has his eyes open and is indeed looking for a way to overcome the corruption that plagues this nation. A doer in a world of talkers stands out and Ron Paul is that doer that stands out for his continuing efforts on behalf of this nation we all live under.

Good for Ron Paul.

His track record speaks volumes, if Ron Paul says something, he is not just blowing smoke so to speak. I really do wish more of our Representatives were as brazen as Mr. Paul, the majority of them though are merely spineless tools.

On a side note, I think ATS members should run for the Senate and House of Representatives in their respective States.

That would be awesome.

We could actually represent the people.

Definitely Ron Paul for President. I'm surprised Obama hasn't been impeached by now. How many times will the Constitution be spat on before the people do something about it?

There are far too many citizens just sitting on their hands content to do nothing, while America gets flushed down the toilet. Except for Ron Paul.

This man needs to live to over 120 years old.

We definitely need more in the Congress that would stand up for the Constitution. One thing those of us who support his efforts can do, and that is to write, call, or visit the local offices of our own Congressional Representatives and voice our support for this measure. For what it's worth, I did just a few minutes ago.

Now he needs to back up his action by pushing some tough regulations for the insurance companies (and banks while he is at it).

And what is his plan for those without insurance?

All I see is a one trick pony...it still does not help the uninsured.

As I see it, we are paying HUGE taxes and should get medical care like Europeans and Canadians; instead all the welfare is going to prop up Wall Street and to feather the beds of the insurance companies.

Come on people! American's are out of work, and losing their homes often because of outsized medical bills. People have to eat before paying insurance. I disagreed with that compulsory act of having to buy insurance; the regulations need to be put on the companies first. And lets just quit the war, fire the Pentagon/CIA/etc. and put the money to use for the Citizens of this country. It's OUR money. It should be spent on OUR health care, not stealth bombers.

Ron Paul is focusing on money...time to focus on human beings in dire straights.

Excellent find! I have no idea how effective any counter-legislation can be at this time. I applaud the consistent message and effort by Ron Paul. If only all our elected officials could perform in that way. I remain hopeful that every pebble in the path of this steamrolling administration will slow their advance and irritate them constantly, exactly as they do to the rest of us.

All we can really hope for is two things.

This debacle handing over billions in tax payer money to banks/wallstreet hopefully will wake people up to the only real option we have at reasonable change in this country. Hopefully people will pull their heads out of their asses in 2012 and we'll see something other than a corporatist puppet in office.

The second thing we can hope for is that Ron Paul is not controlled opposition.

From the way H.R. 4995 is worded, Rep. Paul is seeking to end the requirement that everyone must buy into the government's plan. If I remember correctly, and someone please correct me if I'm mistaken, Pres. Obama wanted the public option, but lost it due to compromises in order to get the bill passed. Rep. Paul is trying to get that put back in. It does not seem that he is trying to get the entire bill repealed, only the mandatory requirement.

I wish I could gain U.S citizenship so I could vote for Ron Paul. The last election was a joke, Ron Paul should have been a main candidate but so many blind Americans were asleep.

I hope by 2012 it isn't too late for the recently awakened Americans to vote Dr.Paul into the presidency.

Have to say though even if he did get elected he would probably get assasinated before he could make any significant changes.

Thanks for the clarification. I was really against that mandatory thing, as well as the financial penalties if people did not buy health insurance. I thought the whole idea was a terrible slap in the face of people who could not afford it to begin with being forced to buy it. Talk about out of touch!

Is he putting insurance regulation (REAL regulation) into his bill too? Hope so.
