This country doesn't permit the average citizen to own a firearm or even mace. So here, you have to think differently about a whole range of
issues
I've lived in some fairly dangerous locations and for many years the only thing between the world and my children, was me
Whether or not I'd freeze in reality, I don't know. But I've done my best to prepare myself mentally, for if the worst should ever happen.
In so many accounts, it's said that the attacker threatened the victim/s with injury or death unless they did as they were told. And we hear and
read stories of the victim complying
So I've told my children that if someone orders them to 'drive and do exactly as you're told', they should drive the car straight into a building
-- a shop or house or even into a lamp-post. At least that way there's a chance people will come to investigate. And the attacker (if he was still
alive) would be more interested in escaping than in killing the victim
After all, if they've got a knife in your neck or ribs as they order you to drive, what do you have to lose ? Theyr'e going to kill you and worse
anyway, once they've forced you to drive somewhere secluded. So it's better to smash the car in a place where at least there are other people
around, even if you break your legs or neck in the process. Better than being raped, tortured for days and finally killed anyway
Same inside your home. Might as well smash everything you can lay hands on. And throw heavy objects through the windows. That way, there's a
chance neighbours will come to investigate, or call the police. At very least, it might start neighbour's dogs barking, which could lead to people
coming out of their homes to see what was going on. Even grabbing the tv or radio remote control and ramping the volume as far as it will go before
smashing the remote with your foot, is better than nothing and will draw attention
Or you could turn on the gas jets in the kitchen, etc., if you have gas ... then light a match. Or set the curtains alight. Fire draws attention, as
does the sound of glass breaking
But every situation's different. Some robbers are professionals and just want to grab stuff and get out. Let them. Others smash in strangers'
doors with baseball bats and then get to work on the occupants
You'd need to sum up very quickly as to what the attackers' intentions are. If they immediately take more interest in you than in your possessions,
it's bad and you might as well give it all you've got for as long as you can, in the hope of convincing them they'd be better off getting out
before neighbours call the police
Most people aren't used to physical violence. It's programmed out of most of us. So they tend to be obedient in the crazy belief that if they do
as the attacker says, the attacker will let them walk away. Or they believe they can appeal to the attackers' better nature. But look at it --
they're in your home, your car, your personal space. You've seen their face/s. They don't want to lose their liberty. You and the fact you can
identify them stands between them and jail. So they're going to make sure you can't identify them
I saw a video on Youtube of a man who went ape in a courtroom. It took four or more officers to pin him down. So one person (you) are capable of
putting up a hell of a fight if you put your mind to it. Better to die that way than meekly allow them to tape your mouth and hands
