"Drill, Baby, Drill" comes to Discovery?

The media conglomerate Discovery Communications used to be known for their earth-friendly offerings. But they’ve just paid millions to Sarah Palin to host a “nature” show, despite her decidedly anti-environmental stance: She vocally advocates for habitat-destroying oil drilling, she denies global warming is a human-caused threat, and she spearheaded a brutal wolf-slaughter program as governor of Alaska.

It’s one thing if Fox News gives Sarah Palin a platform. But when Discovery Communications – home to the Discovery Channel, the "Planet Earth" series, the Science Channel, Animal Planet, and TreeHugger.com – gives a show to Sarah Palin, it undercuts everything the Discovery brand has come to represent.

Anti-environmentalism has no place in the Discovery Communications lineup. Demand that the company cancel "Sarah Palin's Alaska" before it airs.

The former partial-term Alaska governor is reportedly getting paid $1.2 million per episode to host a television series called "Sarah Palin's Alaska," to be broadcast on TLC, one of Discovery Communications' channels. And if Palin runs for president in 2012, a show that provides her the opportunity to greenwash her environmental record on a mainstream, eco-friendly channel is downright dangerous.

Here’s what Sarah Palin’s real Alaska is:

•She accelerated Alaska's cruel aerial wolf-hunting program while in office, introducing a $150 bounty for each slaughtered wolf's forelimb.
•She made a personal appeal to Alaska voters to oppose a ballot measure that would have stopped the immense Pebble Mine operation from dumping cyanide and mining waste into streams that make their way to Bristol Bay, home to the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world.
•When President Bush finally agreed to list the polar bear as a threatened species in 2008 because of global warming's effects on its habitat, the governor sued to challenge the listing.
•Armed with her "Drill, Baby, Drill" catchphrase, Palin called for opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Cook Inlet to oil and gas drilling.
With such a disastrous environmental track record, how could Sarah Palin get a nature show on an eco-conscious media platform like Discovery? The answer may lie in Discovery's COO, Peter Liguori, who joined Discovery in December after a previous stint at Palin's other TV home: Fox Broadcast Co.

We can't let an anti-environment extremist like Sarah Palin take over Discovery and spread her "drill here, drill now" message on a science and environment network.

Speak out now and demand that Discovery pull Sarah Palin's show before it airs.

So What. It's the Discovery Channel's money. It would be a nice change from all of the PC tree hugger propaganda they call programming these days.

As much as i dislike Sarah, I would need to see more sources because from what I've read and seen, she is not getting anywhere that kind of money per episode. She is getting $250,000 per episode. Total 8 eps. $2,000,000.

I'm not a big fan of her's but I don't see the big problem here.
So? What, she's not allowed to make money? Last I checked this was still a free country an people were allowed to earn money.
Or do you prefer a world where the "government" dictates what you earn?
How about sports stars getting millions, do you have the same out rage for them?

First, she is making a couple of million over a season..

Second, who the hell cares?

Is it really a "political conspiracy" that she's making good money doing a few spots on tv? We should all be so lucky..

Then again, I guess those that would speak out against this would never think of going on tv and making an easy couple of mil.. meh, I call your bluff..

Only if you are a Democrat. Otherwise you are taking money that should be distributed to someone not as fortunate as you, but, votes the right way. You know "Obama Money".

Nobody cares OP.

You might have to find a differant Palin story to collect a bunch of stars and flags with. This one isn't panning out to be your mother load.

Great for her! Looks like she was able to get rich by screwing over the political establishment instead of being brought into the big boys clubs in Washington where they could teach her how they use the establishment to screw over the people.

I hope she & Todd are laughing their a--es off heading to the bank-saying "and they call us the dumb ones!". I am beginning to think she should stay out of politics officailly and make every red cent she can off the media.

Now this is ironic. Instead of being helpful in the attemtps to destroy her, they have made her even more famous, popular, sought after and highly paid -more then she could ever have imagined. So, who is the dumb one?

Your title should read small town Alaskan girl outwits the MSM for millions!!! She is quoted as saying Thank you and God Bless America. IMO

She deserves every cent for all the crap she has endured from the MSM.

You go Girl!!!

Well I agree with the OP...tough crowd--who pissed in your cereal this morning?

I'll email Discovery Channel and voice my opposition, but I don't care much for the Discovery Channel. They kind of deserve Sarah Palin as they are a political/financial organization that is complicit in environmental decline.

And fishing... and Chevron ads.. jeez they have oil company advertisement... nuff said. DisCo is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Most of the crap they screen you can learn in ten minutes, or spend an hour watching if you havn't already seen the same thing done a million times by someone else. The excuses for 'science' are amazing.

Lets not get anywhere near 9/11 basic physics or any 'fringey free energy rubbish'. Imagine if they could actually benefit humanity in a truely positive way. Mythbusters: free energy (and done properly..).

I like some of their programming; I just saw a Conspiracy? episode on JFK. However they started out showing their intentions, by constantly referring to the conspiracy as a "myth"

That is pretty sick that Discovery Channel is doing that. I saw a commercial recently for a logging show that i think is on discovery channel where they were using helicopters to cut and carry super large trees away and it kind of pissed me off.

What the hell is going on?!? They are pushing non-environmentally friendly shows on that channel it seems. Do you have an email i can write to about all this?

I am young and don't have cable TV anymore because i am tired of the garbage that is being produced by almost all the channels. Before i canceled i only watched Discovery, History, History International, Science and Animal Planet (oh and Comedy Central ofcourse!)

The other people who posted "so what", come on guys, think about the earth once inawhile

Since when did the discovery channel not become a business?...Oh wait.

T.V is entertainment, not a college class.

You all expect the world to run off some strange non-maximizing profit motive?

Very good point, but it used to run programs yoiu could learn something from, hence the name.

Don't get me started on TLC

Ofcourse it's a business and they keep producing garbage TV that they think will become popular.

It's like MTV, you know, that channel called Music Television. Notice how they don't show Music anymore? It's the same concept, people like music and the "business" decided to take it in a new direction. The new direction was a huge hit but guess what, they don't play music anymore. It's a joke.

MTV did, once upon a time, do that very thing... Waaaaay, back in the day...

As for Ms. Palin? Good for her... I'd do it too, in a heart beat... some one want to pay me a quarter mil for some episodes on Discovery?

Hello?

*crickets*

Oh, well...

Seriously, I don't see the issue here? Other than, of course, it's Sarah Palin...

That's cool! I'm glad Sarah is finding more and more public outlets. I'm not really a big fan, but I do love the turmoil and repulsion she causes on the socialist, treehugger, Prius driving side of the population. She has something they just cannot resist.
