A former informant admitted to informing a suspected terrorist involved in NY subway bombing plot about an investigation, is asked to leave the country?

Manhattan, NY, United States (AHN) - An imam who admitted to lying to authorities and tipping off a suspect in a conspiracy to bomb New York's subway system, has been ordered out of the country.


Ahmad Wais Afzali, 38, was sentenced to time served and ordered to leave in 90 days or face deportation back to Afghanistan. In his sentencing hearing on Thursday, he told the the court during his the he had not intended to help suspects accused of the bomb plot.

Afzali, who grew up in New York and served as a police informant in the years after 9/11, was charged in September of willfully making false statements to the FBI in a matter involving international and domestic terrorism. He entered a plea agreement last month that reduced the maximum eight years in prison the original charge against him carried, to six months.

Prosecutors say he alerted Najibullah Zazi about a federal investigation on the planned suicide operation.

I guess the plea was agreed to to keep some details of the investigation secret?

Yes, send him to the society he identifies with.

If he was a source for the FBI and he did not keep his activities quiet it appears he was was trying to establish himself as a double agent.

He is of no value to the FBI and we are well rid of him.

Nice to see we were kind enough to give him NINTY days to get his stuff together and leave.

That is just crazy. Do you think that someone may just be a little upset at this decision and before he leaves Mastermind another attack.

He should have been taken right to the airport with a message saying we MAY send your personal belongings later AFTER we go threw them etc.

The country is just not on fighting terror footing. Maybe after the next 4000+ get killed by another attack the country/citizens will wake up-for real.

The muslims here to wage jihad need to be rounded up and deported.

This is good first step. As America Incorporated closes overseas operations, the enemies domestic will be more and more in the spotlight. They should self deport while they have time.
