Israeli Troops Go on Alert as Abbasiyeh Residents Remove Barbed Wire

www.naharnet.com

Abbasiyeh residents on Friday removed the barbed wire set up by Israel 3 days ago near the Blue Line and hoisted Lebanese flags at the electronic gate amid deployment of Israeli troops on the side of the border.
The residents were led by MP Qassem Hashem, the National News Agency said. Around ten Israeli army vehicles and more than 50 soldiers went on alert under the gaze of the Lebanese army and U.N. peacekeepers, it added.

So it looks like a Lebanese MP removed barbed wire and hoisted Lebanese flags near a "blue line" on the Israel Lebanon border. However, according to the report, Israel removed the Lebanese flags near the blue line after the MP and other protesters left the area. Now it looks like the MP was catering to domestic audience by using some rhetoric. However, this incident, along with several others in the recent has shown that the government in Lebanon has drifted away from an "anti-Syrian, anti-Hezbollah" stance towards pro Hezbollah stance. This might be because of increasing prominence of Hezbollah in Lebanese politics.

This goes with the statements heard yesterday from Lebanese government that Hezbollah has its backing to act in occupied areas. Yesterday Israel took same kind of actions and crossed border in Blue Line with company of mans.

I think that the Iranians (along with Russians and Chinese) are trying to replicate the North Korea situation in Lebanon up to some extent. Whenever we talk about any possibility of a military conflict between North and South Korea, the first thing that we hear from "experts" is that North Korea has thousands of artillery pieces aimed at Seoul. We also hear that in the eventuality of a conflict, Seoul would be reduced to rubble in minutes. This has created a level playing field of sorts and an uneasy peace has prevailed over the Korean peninsula. Over the past years, Syria has supplied Hezbollah with thousands of rockets and missiles. If we believe the "facts" supplied by the MSM, the number of rockets that Hezbollah possesses is said to be around 45000. Even Nasrallah has started to make statements like "street for every street" and "air field for every air field". Whether peace prevails or not is uncertain, however, both in case of Korea as well as Israel-Lebanon, chances of a limited confrontation is very minimum. In case hostilities break out in either of these two theaters, all gloves would be off and the conflict would no longer be restrained to mere skirmishes amongst various warring groups. Which is perhaps the reason why peace, however fragile, should prevail in order to avoid a very brutal conflict.

A Hezbollah government minister is refusing to confirm or deny Israeli allegations that the militant Lebanese group has acquired Scud missiles.

Minister Hussein Haj Hassan says the group was always arming and preparing itself but, "what we have is not their business."

Haj Hassan told Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV that since Israel possessed all kinds of weapons, it's only natural for Lebanon to have the means to defend itself against an Israeli attack

Lebanese villagers dismantle part of Israel border fence

Around 50 villagers from the southern Lebanese town of Abbasiyeh removed Friday a barbed wire fence which was set up by Israel three days earlier on the so-called Blue Line border separating Lebanon and Israel, a Lebanese security source said.

The crowd hoisted Lebanese flags in the area, while Israeli troops went on high alert.

Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian in an exchange of fire near the northern Gaza Strip's border with Israel on Friday, hospital officials and the Israeli military said.

The military said an army force patrolling the border identified a Palestinian gunman planting explosives near the security fence along the border, east of Gaza City.

The gunman threw a hand grenade at the soldiers, who responded by firing back, it said in a statement.

Gaza emergency services chief Mo'aweya Hassanein said one gunman was killed. A second gunmen was taken to hospital with moderate wounds.

The military said it was the second attempt this week by Palestinian militants to plant explosive devices near the border fence.

holy crap, check this out...

Israel has delivered a secret warning to Syrian President Bashar Assad that it will respond to missile attacks from Hezbollah, the militant Lebanese-based Islamist group, by launching immediate retaliation against Syria itself.

In a message, sent earlier this month, Israel made it clear that it now regards Hezbollah as a division of the Syrian army and that reprisals against Syria will be fast and devastating.

Even if this is a mere "war of words" between Israel and Hezbollah-Syria, this "war of words" is getting shriller every day. I think that we can safely assume that the U.S state department might be persuading both sides to calm down. However, the problem here is that if one faction, whether it is the IDF or Hezbollah, is itching for a conflict, then even diplomacy might run its course.

Please explain why you think the price of Oil would rise so much if Israel kicks arse with Iran / Syria / Lebanon etc.?

Why not Gold or Gas?

Firing off a lot of weapons at Syria or Lebanon should have no influence on Oil if they don't produce it / we don't buy any off them? Doesn't the US have it's own Oil fields like we do here in the UK?

Do we actually buy Oil off Iran? I seriously doubt it so again, why would we be affected?

What am I missing here? Sorry if off topic, just got me curious!
