Who will be the first to land on Mars then? China? India? Russia?

Or something similar to the Military/Industrial company in the Alien trilogy?

Well i guess "lets go to mars" is a bit more inspiring than a "large scale maned mission to Iran"

I want to believe he actually means this but deep down I know it's just politics. Seriously though, 2030? We'll have the technology to do this in just a few years.

My prediction is Russia will put a man on Mars somewhere between 2016 and 2020.

I'm confused
. As some have already stated he has taken away the funds for some of the new spacecraft in the works, so how does he intend for us to get there? You can't design new spacecraft for a later date when you cancle funding for the ones already on the drawing board that are supposed to make the transfer into the ones he's talking about. Maybe Obama,Ried and Pelosi can just force our way there!

I cant help but think that a few months back I stated right here on ATS that Obama would either move towards "Disclosure" or he would maintain the status quo of keeping secret technology under wraps and using it to continue to perpetuate a deception on the American public by declaring some new mission to either the moon or Mars just as a means of diverting the billions into some other secret uses.

I stated back then that Obama would either move towards disclosure or not. It appears he is intent on the status quo and as such this means that the mission to Mars is a false mission because we already have a colony on Mars and have had one there for decades. The mention of long term mission to Mars is just an elaborate means to justify billions in funding while spending that funding on something else or spending enough to get us 5-10 yrs along in the project only to have the project canceled for lack of funding or some other political excuse.

In such a way, they have fraudulently funded secret projects for decades all the while keeping secret the fact that we are already on the moon and Mars with colonies and research teams doing what scientist do. With an army of engineers, scientists, NASA specialist and those in the military getting to and from Mars is being achieved by secret technology that allows for teleportation" to and from Mars by almost instantaneous speed. No need for a space ship or all that false science jargon that is still being peddled by NASA and now President Obama.

While there may some who would say that I am insane, well I don't come to these conclusions lightly because to assume the same as I, all you have to do is become familiar with Andrew D. Basiago, Atty at Law. and the "Looking Glass Technology" and the "Cube". Others include Dr. Dan Burisch, Dr. Steven Greer and others etc, etc. Just researching these three individuals will get you up to speed on why I am commenting as I am.

As a credible federal witness, Mr. Basiago openly discusses that we have been on Mars and that any project for such a quest to go to Mars is just a ploy to fund other secret projects with no hope of future success, because the missions and the funding that is requested is merely to keep milking the cow of money while never letting anyone know that we are already on Mars and don't need to plan a mission.

We need to disclose the truth of our secret technology and our off world colonies, but alas, Obama has shown that he is opting for milking the cash cow and continuing the deception rather than tell us the truth. Perhaps Obama is really just a puppet doing what his puppet masters tell him to do, but make no mistake, Obama is asking for something we don't need to spend money for and instead of some secret project that the billions would go to, I have a feeling the billions in funding will go to prop us up so that we don't financially collapse until just the right moment of their choosing.

Until then they could divert the Mission to Mars money to keep our federal government alive long enough for them to achieve their destruction of American society by collapsing our financial system at a time of their choosing. either way, this press release for a mission to Mars is a bold lie and deception that has to end. I guess it's not going to end under Obama unless things change so that Obama has no say so in the matter.

Let's hope that there is a change and that the change is Obama being replaced with a real leader. A honestly elected representative of the people and not just the corporation giants that have bribed themselves into the inner sanctum of our system of government and are intent on robbing the American public for as long as possible before moving us into direct dictatorship as a requirement for global dictatorship or what they call the New Global World Order.

After you do some online or ATS searching, you will find as I did that this isnt "Rocket Surgery."

Thanks for the posting.

i had a feeling this would happen. nothing but platitudes.

if the bureaucracy were kept to a minimum, it was properly funded, and the work shared between nasa and private companies, we could be to mars in five years.

instead he wants to triple that time. this is ridiculous. maybe it's time ats started scraping together the funding to start manned missions in the solar system on our own. what do you think Three Amigos?

I am rather pleased that we again have someone in the Presidency who has an interest in space travel. It's been a long dry spell, in terms of something really exciting.

With all the terrible things going on nationally and globally, we need something cheerful, and this cheers me up. A little. Somewhat.

Well I know quite a few people that work at the Space Center on various programs and not one of them was happy. Obama was supposed to speak to a bunch of people and with a pass non-workers could attend, like I was supposed to. The guys didn't find out about this change until yesterday. Everything Obama said IMO is lie. He doesn't feel that way, he is saying what the people out there want to hear because they are about to lay off about 10,000 people. Everyone I know that works there knows he isn't going to do anything. I watched the speech at work and I was not impressed. I am all for going to Mars but 2030, he won't even be President and whatever President is after him will have to agree to keep that program as well. I really don't like what is going to happen out here, it will affect the area in a big way when all those people lose their jobs.

I really do hope we get to Mars, heck I will volunteer

Maybe Obama want's to colonize mars... Then Socialize it.
I think he would make a good First President in space. He should leave today for the forbidden zone...

Hasn't this always been the case?

Cut Nasas budget and promise something big 20 years in the future, when they're not presidents? Ive seen this happen so many times i cant believe people fall for it.

Yes, lets divert money from probably the most noble cause in human history, space travel, and put it towards lining the pockets of wealthy bankers. Yea sure, that will get humanity off this stinkin rock

Hoagland & Barrack are a good pair.....

Lots & lots of hot air!

Do you remember Hoagland's "Obama Hyperdemensional Election" rubbish?

It's still on his website.

Hoagland says he predicted the election result with his "hyperdimensional physics" !

No, you're right he looked pretty bad on that one. I actually watched that entire presentation. I thought overall it was interesting and had some merit.

I usually stay away from Hoagland, but I think he knows his # overall. He's just way over inflated and full of himself.

He did however call this a couple of months ago.

Politicians should not engage in plans way past their mandate.

Technological and economical progress will dictate the rate of exploration in my opinion.

On the other hand, dreaming is always good though.

I also think it is intended to distract the media & voters from all the other problems he is causing.

Let's hope proper focus is applied to what he is saying, so that if he's a being total fraud he will be exposed as such.

Yes, yes, and definently yes.
When the president cut funding for NASA as much as he did, and told us that we weren't going back to the moon, he showed that he was no friend of the astronomy community.

Astronomers, rocket scientists, NASA and JPL employees, as well as private sector laughed at Obama's cabinet saying things like, "Russia now has a shot at populating space first." Or, "Looks like China will get to have the first space colony."

These people were no dummies, they knew that the funding cuts were bad news, and they all are wise enough to know that actions speak louder than words. These words are more like vomit or Bull$#@.

This is fine though, because Obama is just another puppet, just another politician. Remember kids, the last four presidents got into power by being lying, crooked bash-turds, this is just par for the course.

"We should attempt a return to the surface of the moon first, as previously planned. But I just have to say, pretty bluntly here, we've been there before. Buzz has been there," Obama said.

This is very strange. Why not go back to the Moon before Mars because it's closer and safer to set up a self contained base for food hydroponics, Water gathering, how to make oxygen/regeneration?, solar panels etc... learn first on the Moon.
Instead of retiring and selling the Shuttles with no engines why no refit them and load them up and Fly to the Moon and Land, First Main Base. The second Shuttle could take a Fuel supplies up to the Moon for return flightsThan use this Base to Launch the Mars Mission
Even use Robotics to setup and start growing and experimenting before NASA completely forgets how to get back to the Moon NASA Forgot How To Go To The Moon!!!

This is speculation on my part this is why.
I've been watching these "Hypersonic" programs running in full swing for the last year than President Obama announced the retiring of the Shuttles Astronauts Celebrate Retiring Shuttle Program what happens here unman the space station? or rent it out
Now:
Woomera Test Range in outback South Australia, "Hypersonic" Programs ten tests planed. The first test, 7 May 2009 the second test ,Mar 23rd at 5,000 kilometres per hour (Mach-4)- from Ground Launch.

U.S. Air Force Set To Begin X-51 Hypersonic Flight Tests, April I think.
Air Force to launch Boeing 'mystery' spacecraft April 19 from Cape Canaveral.
Looks like a Shuttle, are these test flights part of the New Mars Program?
X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle.

Look at this, Air Force X-37B Space-Plane.

I hope no one thinks I'm off topic because I do see something happening here there are several programs in full swing.

If I haven't lost your interest "Hypersonic" Programs from HIFiRE, DARPA, AEDC are in Full Swing when the Shuttle Program is shut

This mission is Huge to go to Mars wow, I thought it took ten months to get there I found this, to get to Mars the "Hohman Transfer Orbit" is what is used.
How long would a trip to Mars take?

In the nine months it takes to get to Mars, Mars moves a considerable distance around in its orbit, about 3/8 of the way around the Sun. You have to plan ahead to make sure that by the time you reach the distance of Mar's orbit, that Mars is where you need it to be! Practically, this means that you can only begin your trip when Earth and Mars are properly lined up. This only happens every 26 months. That is there is only one launch window every 26 months.

#21b Flight to Mars: How Long?
Along what Path?

That's why they want to research new propulsion systems to get there faster.

They want to find a way to get to Mars in weeks instead of months or years.

There are numerous significant hindrances in going to Mars, and we aren't working seriously to conquer those probelms.

The real research is in low-Earth orbit research and funding, and that is going more through the military than NASA. By creating this grand scheme of worthless plans, it does divert attention from the real research, which is of much more practical use at this time.
