cnn reporting just now -

Last time this volcano erupted was 109 years ago. It continued erupting for TWO YEARS. Of course this was before any trans-Atlantic flights ....

Could this event impede air travel? Absolutley.

Since the main corridor for transporting American troops is through europe and Trans-Atlantically how long can it take to bring our troops home, and how much does this effect, (detour / deter) war efforts?

If we are at the top of the food chain and we are scaring eachother
One can only imagine we are probably scaring all other inhabitants on our home, if not our home as well.

People stranded on six continents.
Trans-Atlantic flights delayed indefinatly
Most Europe aircraft grounded (4,000+ flights)

Hey...check out the evil eruption face, the earth is angry!

Thermal camera of the eruption.

Why on earth does this remind me of Michael Jackson ?
It might be the nose?

Even if most of the Ash in the Lower Levels is carried away by the winds, by Regulations the Air Corridors still aren't deemed safe until complete dispersion of all Volcanic Particulants is deemed fit enough to warrant the airspace passable again.

Having 17,000 flights passing through a unconcentrated mix of Volcanic Plume isn't in the best interests in terms of not only safety but also maintenance for weeks/months to come.

Does anyone know if this thing is still erupting?

Report on news here 2 hrs ago said eruption was ongoing and not showing any signs of slowing...

The eruption itself seems to be continuing strong - and by some reports, intensifying. The latest update from the Icelandic Met Office reads: The plume from the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull volcano is still ongoing, reaching hights of 4 to 5 kilometers, occasionally reaching higher altitudes. The plume drifts with north-westerly winds reaching Europe. It has been detected over Norway, Sweden, northwestern Russia, northern Polland, northern Germany, northern France and southern UK. There is no indication that the ash from the volcano is decreasing and it is predicted that high-level winds will stay north-westerly today. Not exactly what weary travelers around the world want to hear right now.

Ran into this.....

75 percent chance that the monster volcano awakens

In three out of four cases when Eyjafjallajökull have an outbreak then the big neighbor Katla also got one. Forsker advarer mot tsunami og enorme flodbølger. Scientist warns of tsunami and huge tidal waves.

Tried to link to Dagbladet.no, but to no avail. Sorry

This would be the real story behind the story if it happens. Pretty good odds.

Back to work

Amazing views on the Valahnuk webcam right now. The ejection is still very dark in colour and is continuing to belch significantly.

I was just thinking "why is it every time it's clear and I post the fact, I return to the webcam and it's cloudy?"

Interviewing on Sky News (UK) and he was explaining that it might keep erupting until it breaks through the glacier. He didn't mention how long that might take though.

Even better view. Ash-cloud going right above FL250 i'd estimate.

Phreatomagmatic at first, but continually more eruptive ejecting greyer Ash, the black ejecta being the actual Magmatic material itself.
