Wow, what was that? I would say ball lightening, but since it just kept going and appeared to stop in mid air several times, I'm going say no, it's something else, what?, I 'm not sure.
Thanks for posting that, very intriguing!!!!!!!!!!

OH! I didn't read the comments

On a different note....
I am trying to figure out what the white things are in the front field at Hvolsvelli

eldgos.mila.is...

Silage bales I guess. They come in all sorts of colours. They are usually black round here, but can be blue or white/light green.

Winter fodder in case you are wondering what silage bales are.

Edit: Drat missed it. They moved them into storage.

Yes, I documented it here

By the way if you need previous days maps I download the map and graph for Myrdalsjokull and Vatnajokull every hour. (at least while my computer is on - normally about 18 hours a day)

Looks like a steam plume to me.
But it looks like she wants a bit of attention again so let us see how it evolves.

hmm,
may be not only steam but hard to tell as too bright for the moment on poro cam.

It's an awful big steam plume, covers a larger area than before. I have been watching Hvolsvelli cam zoomed in really big for a couple hours now, I believe maybe another fissure has opened up in there somewhere.

Anyway, I was bored and came up with this evil looking image.

Spookeh. I was just watching it like 5mins ago and thought I saw a UFO, haha but I guess it was a bird, maybe you saw it fly from the middle to the top right of the screen.

I've been watching over the last half hour and the plume, now partially obscured, is starting to look darker...

I see nothing on the tremor monitors that would indicate any significant magma movement. There was a little burst at HVO yesterday but I think that was connected to a small quake on Katla.

Nothing on your daily reports ni91ck?

Edit: This plot does not seem to indicate anything either and looks reasonably up to date.

Another edit: I have just had a look at the weather maps and note that the wind is coming from the North. There is a lot of warm water in that lake. What you could be seeing is condensing water vapour which is more noticeable because of the cooler northerly air flow. If the air is cool you will tend to get a bigger column above and evaporating area. Just my 2 cents of spoilsporting!!

There are more steamplumes at the moment 14.23 hour icelandic time, see pic. Watching close today!

And here is a working version of the link

Yup I think that proves my theory that what we are seeing is increased condensation of water vapour due to lower temperatures from the northerly wind.

@Puterman

I don't know about your theory.

It certainly looked like a plume and not evaporating water from the lake in the crater, when we had a clear sky this morning.
When we had a better view on the poro cam I though I could see grayish stuff coming up through the "vapour" plume. But that could still be a visual effect and I was wrong.

But this makes no sense as the tremor graphs are showing nothing. Never been as low in tremor activity since the eruption started months ago.
Also no earthquakes reported on Eyja.

Anyway,
It seems to have stopped now (looking at the poro cam and can only see clouds I think)
