What's up with Americans always going to the war issue? They always like t bring up, "well we saved you in world war 2" "You guys don't like to get involved in other nations affairs" "You don't like wars". What's up with the whole war issue? Shouldn't you be congradulating them for not pissing everyone off and killing innocent civilians with rediculous wars? I think it is just a sign of evolution, they have learned from their bloody past that war is not the answer. When was the last time Americans were being bombed in our cities? The Civil War 140 years ago!

You know what.. these statements get dumber all the time :lol

As an Irish person, I hope you can repay me for interest for my ancestors building your rail networks and east cost cities in the 1800's

See how stupid it sounds?

I have no love or time for what the US did in WW2 Europe.. And most of the Hollywood war movies are sanctimonious propaganda that only serve destroy historical fact in order to create more nationalist pride whilst forking in the dosh..

I do however big it up for stopping communism.. Its biggest feat IMO.. and one of the big reasons for that was I was alive (5 years old) when the Berlin wall fell..

But if you guys wanna keep bringing up things that you did in the last millennium but brushing aside anything that was done in return, you are going to live up to the image of the uneducated Yanks that ye are generalized as the world over..

The problem arises here.. and this quote from The Dark Knight says it all..

"You can die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"

And that my friend is the US's problem.. You are only as good as your last deed and the last dozen major US deeds have been Empirical and Catastrophic for Human Life..

So grow out of that whole WW2 thing, it will only serve to turn you into a joke..

There are Americans and Europeans who can switch back and forth between continents with no issues, but I agree there are some big over-all philosophical differences between the two that, yes, should be left alone.

One of those is gun rights. I know Switzerland and some other European nations are also big gun-owners and are vigilant to protect their right to bear arms, but most Europeans seem to not even be able to comprehend why people would want guns to protect themselves. At the same time the NRA slogan in the US is "from my cold dead hands." So that's one thing Europeans and Americans are not going to reconcile.

Another thing many/most Americans don't like is socialist health care programs or anything else that the government does in an effort it has taken upon itself in order to "take care" of its citizens. This is the same as saying the least government is the best government, and people should take care of their own selves, because our government has such a tendency for corruption (as do European governments whether you want to realize it or not) that they do a piss poor job at taking care of anything.

One thing I will call on our European brothers for help with, is dismantling and de-centralizing our federal government. It's the federal government and an extremely corrupt and compromised Congress, executive and judicial branch that have us in so many foreign countries, killing innocent people and doing so much else we have no business doing. We Americans complain about this all day but you see what good it does us. Our media has people so brainwashed into thinking these things are okay that our leaders are still able to get away with it.

Its becoming so clear in the IT era...the divorce between Europeans and Americans can no longer be held down...hollywood have for a long time now been bombarding Europe with propaganda movies, showing how they want us to see and recognize the American...

But in the fast growing media stream in many different areas, Europe getting high access to the real life of the american lowclass...middleclass...highclass, and how they are viewing life, money, other citizens, society, war, peace, so on...

The difference between the peoples in the two continents are huge...and maby this is one way to see the popular trend in the EU and why...Europeans no longer want America to be the blueprint for Europe...We simply are to different...

Why would europe do a thing like that? And since were europe and america married?

The US is mostly living off the advantages it gained from a weakened Europe after the second world war . It's benefiting from the extended pseudo period of a 'cold war' with Russia. It seeks to prolong these temporary circumstances , in it's actualities or in the minds of those that it can convince towards some kind of bizarre union of mutual benefit. When we know that such unions are similar to the electronic diode , where the current only flows one way, as does the benefits of such US agreements.

Sad that most of you have no sense of humor.
Nothing ruffles European feathers more then than telling them America won WWII.
Thats dry humor!
And asking for allimony and child support was a joke too!
Why do people try to read more into things ?

On this side of the Atlantic, we've been developing a federal civil service, in Brussels, not supervised by any proper federal government. Arguably, this is even worse. Perhaps we can swap ideas on how a real democratic central government can be established.

Ok nice simile about their homes...My reply to you is the way many Europeans look at this problem, it must not be my personal viewing...I created this thread because i wanted to see how members of ats approached the subject, from a little more educated level than many bloggers in Europe...and my brain is like the nature, sometimes its raining

Our best thinkers on this subject haven't been around since the late 1700's, early 1800's.

Thomas Jefferson had some pointers:

"A little rebellion now and then is a good thing and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical."

"That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves."

"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

"The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers."

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. "

"The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it."

I don't think Americans want to hold onto Europe anyway, save for Geostrategic reasons . There may a few of them that hold personal reasons or they have a special affinity , like a new york family revisiting ireland to rediscover old roots or if they liked the english or germans when stationed there. They aren't overly concerned for the welfare of any nation , except israel and that's more a government/policy/donation issue that I'd doubt many would subscribe to if it wasn't forced on them by their government .

Sometimes, one has to wonder, "Did Europe choose one evil over the other?".

(But in all seriousness, I'm European and I love my American cousins!)

Its been a long time coming in my oppinion.
Yep, you helped us out in WW2, but then again, what would have happend if Britain did fall. You wouldnt have had a foothold to launch attacks from then. Plus you'll be getting spit-roasted on both side's of your country.
And you seem to forget that it wasnt just the American's who landed on the beaches of France.
Anyway, the constant badgering of Europe dosnt help... And nobody likes a bully.

Even when we've been there, fighting your corner, we still get criticised and drawn to the implification's of your actions, when we agree and even if we dont agree.
But then again, I think us Brits (from my own perception) will just let our country/kingdom slip deeper into the never-ending peat ditch complaining but not doing anything about it because we cant be botherd.
Same for the most of Europe too.
But then again, there is systematic support in Europe, look at all the nice 'chaps' that have given Greece all that money for some new beach side property! Now thats teamwork!

But, I suppose we can also see what else the financial future has in store for the region...

No doubt they will not . More likely I will be subjected to a bout of home grown amateur psycho- analysis by saturnFx to establish why I should ask in the first place .
