I had a look, it says no special characters on the user name field of the Join ATS page... So I am guessing it wouldn't have worked.

Anyone who signs up a username using symbols will be required to re-register under a name without symbols.

That's kind of a bummer - it would be cool to be known as a symbol

Like Prince - err - I mean the symbol of Prince - are we even supposed to using the name "Prince" now? I've confused myself and changed my mind, it would not be cool to be known as a symbol.

Is it OK to Use symbols in posts OR thread titles?

Not many people know that you can do this.

But if you Hold ALT+ any number you get a symbol/letter

1=☺☺☺
2=☻☻☻
3=♥♥♥

etc. all the way to 999.

=☺☺☺
2=☻☻☻
3=♥ ♥ ♥

Only works when I copy and paste what you put.

lol.

The symbols and numbers in that list differ to what appears with my PC. eg. 232 on my PC is Þ and 231 is þ.
I've been using them as toungues sticking out on smileys since the late 1990s :ºÞ

On my laptop its not NumLk that you engage its PadLk; ie "pad lock". Doing so enables you to then use the ALT key along with the numbers embedded on the basic keyboard.
Way too difficult to be bothered with IMHO; except in some special circumstance. ♂

The Euro symbol € is just ALT GR (right hand ALT button) and number 4 (not on numpad) on a standard UK keyboard layout.
The ø character is ALT+155.
The Ø character is ALT+157.

On some of the keys on the right of the keyboard, there should be little blue numbers. If you hold down your laptop's Fn key, those keys will act like the number pad.

For those having trouble with these symbols on laptops, try using CharMap if you're a windoze user...

You can choose the symbol or special character you want to use, copy it to the clipboard then paste it into your post...

Edit to add - If you're having trouble finding CharMap its: Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/CharMap...It is in windoze xp anyways
