Ohio official tells residents to 'arm themselves' amid police cuts

When the sheriff's department in Ashtabula County, Ohio, was cut from 112 to 49 deputies, just one vehicle was left to patrol the 720-square-mile county.

Asked what residents should do for protection, Common Pleas Judge Alfred Mackey replied, " Arm themselves," and added, "We are going to have to look after each other."

Area gun dealers and instructors told WKYC-TV, Cleveland, that they've noticed an uptick in sales and interest in self-defense classes.

One instructor, Tracy Williams, said the cuts mean "you don't have any other option" other than to listen to Mackey's advice.

There are more cuts in funds to sheriff, and other law enforcement departments, aparts from the ones already occurring all over the country.

This shouldn't be the only reason why Americans, who haven't committed any heinous crimes, should arm themselves, but it is obviously showing many Americans what millions of us already knew, you can't depend on ANYONE, not even law enforcement departments to defend you, or your family.

It is the responsibility of every American to be armed, and to know how to safely use such firearms, as well as store them safely so that there are no accidents, and also to teach children, under supervision, not to play with your firearms, but in case they need to use them children should be taught to respect firearms and to use them in case an adult is not with them at home and some criminal tries to, or breaks into the house.

Even in Spain I remember family members would buy BB guns to their sons. Of course this also USED to be done in the U.S., and other developed countries. The same should be done these days.

A BB gun/rifle is a good start for children to begin to familiarize themselves with firearms, and it is an excellent way for children to learn how to shoot.

If a state is too broke to keep public services up and running, what will be next? Exodus? Anarchy?

so if this town wanted, oh say... 10 patrol officers out at one time, they would have to hire 480 more deputies???
