James Pavitt, deputy director for operations, who was in charge of the agency's spies, is said to have made the decision some weeks ago.

The CIA says Mr Pavitt's decision was unconnected with Mr Tenet's departure.

I suspect we are going to see more of these resignations,
and they are running to save face from a cataclysm looming on the horizon.

Now the question arises on just what that catastrophe is?

- economic collapse
- a major terrorist attack
- escalation of war
- all the above
