While the MSM tries to paint all militia in a very broad brush, here's a piece where a little investigative reporting can help shed light on the situation.

scienceblogs.com

One of our reporters for the Michigan Messenger, Todd Heywood, spent last Saturday with the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia as they held training exercises. He found them quite different than he expected -- paranoid, yes, but not crazy. And far less predictable politically than he expected.

In a first article for the Michigan Messenger, he wrote about Matt Savino, one of the militia leaders who is, believe it or not, Muslim. He was the one who not only turned down a request from help from the Hutaree, but as Todd discovered, he even tried to help the FBI track down the Hutaree fugitive.

In a second article, he wrote about several other militia members, all of whom clearly share some serious paranoia but none of whom were frothing at the mouth or spoiling for a fight.

Some militia "experts" have claimed that the Hutaree were well within the mainstream of the militia movement rather than on the fringes of the movement, but that is not true. Amy Cooter, a PhD grad student doing a thesis on the Michigan militias, told me that when she first began approaching the militias for her research project nearly two years ago, all of the other militias told her not to spend time with the Hutaree. They all told her that they were crazy extremists and not safe to be around. Their distancing of themselves from the Hutaree is not a pose of convenience after the group got in trouble.

While the article does claim that the militia all exhibit different levels of paranoia, I don't believe that label fits either, I would call it being suspicious, inquisitive, and informed, in other words, using your head for something besides a hat rack.

Questioning and watching a government that has bullied and killed and holds a gun to your head everyday to collect a bill it decided you owe is paranoia but when that same government sends out legions of troopers to collect information on everyone in town from the elderly to the children because some guy sent in a vague letter that they decided to interpret as a threat they're just being cautious and safe.

Quite a refreshing view of militias to be honest, unfortunately the reasonable and sane folks seldom if ever make the national news and therefore the media runs rampant using people like Hutaree as an example of all militias.

If you want to surprise militia members, why not jump out from the bushes and shout boogy-woogy-woo?

No, he was the leader of of another group who they requested help from, according to the article, Savino, rejected the request and also assisted the FBI in their effort to locate the Hutaree member.

This is all just propaganda put out to muddy the waters. Of course the one militia they went after were the crazy extremist but we all know the FBI knows most of the rest of the militias are ok and upstanding guys etc... LOL if you believe a word the media puts out on this!

That's the problem, most folks take the MSM news alerts as gospel..

Not here mind you, but any chance we have to provide a bit of clarity to the situation, we should do so in my opinion.

MSM sure isn't broadcasting this
