With all the talk of revolution and overthrowing the US government here on ATS I decided to create this thread in which you will outline what you think is the perfect government. First I will give you the scenario and in my next post I'll tell you what to do.

The scenario:
A large group of Americans led by ATS members succeed in overthrowing the US government leaving us in a state of anarchy. The masses of the people have voted you to design a new government that will usher in a new era of happiness.

Now here's what you have to decide:

Will it be a limited government or a powerful one?

Who will be in charge? An absolute ruler? A group of people? No one at all?

What is your foreign policy? Immigration policy?

Will your government be deeply involved in your peoples lives or sit back and only intervene when neccessary?

How will you deal with crime? Health care? Education?

What type of economic system will you have?

These are just to get you thinking, you can design it any way you want.

Animalistic Society....survival of the fittest. No rules, no regulations.

It would be interesting to see what happens. To see the tougher lower class get their revenge on all the big CEOs and politicians who have tried to control their lives for the past 300 years

People would soon find out that fear gets you killed rather quickly. As with any society or individual person...fear and doubt will get you no where

So pretty much anarchy? That's interesting.

I'm looking forward to some of your responses. I've always wondered how people here on ATS would choose to run things.

I. I would follow the constitution.

II. I would trade with other countries for things we needed. trying to keep imports very low while exports high. Of course..

III. Immigration you would have to be skilled in something to imigrate to my make believe country.

IV. I would deal with crime carefully all will be inocent of crime until proven guilty, which punishment would lead to labor camps to death. health insurence would be provided thru employer, if you cannot afford healthcare for emergency or what have you, you could get a loan from the government but you or will have to pay it back,

V. Capitalism with a currency that has worth, backed by gold or a precious metal of some sort. I would not have anything like federal reserve.

not perfect but I am sure their would be very little dicent.

So a kind of reformed version of our current government?

Anyways I just thought of two more things to consider, what type of labor system will you have and what will be your stance on religion?

Free Elections would be done WITHOUT MACHINES in 6 weeks time.
but until then, All 50 Governors would convene as a majority rule
over the Fed Gov. If there is a tie over a vote (25-25), then 1 vote
by the Sec of Defense breaks the deadlock.

All US Troops in Iraq and Afgh would be recalled immediately
with a 6-week timetable to withdraw.

Immigration Policy: Full-time Military Units would rotate
1 week deployments on the Mexican Border using our
Drones and Sats as intel for search and destroy. HAARP
would be used along the border to sniff out underground
tunnels. Homeland Security's Priority directive would be to round up ALL
illegal aliens and drop them off on the other side of the
border. If they are not from Mexico, then escort them to their
respective embassies and dump them on their front lawn.

First off I would relax the demonizing of Patriots as
extremists or terrorists in the MSM. I would let the
MSM be transparent in their reporting of ALL individuals.
I would repeal the Patriot Act and Dubya's 9/11 Pardon.
I would ask congress for a new 9/11 Investigation
and prosecute those responsible even if it meant
going into Israel after them. As far as regular crime,
no matter what you do there is still gonna be crime.
I would repeal Obabamcare. I would fire every politician
in Washington and every lobbyist registered and ban them
from politics forever. I would redo the Healthcare bill
over again and include a public option so that it is not
mandatory, nor is it a crime to not participate. I would
restore States Rights back to the States. And downsize
the 1.2 Million Fed Employees by half. I would eliminate
the Federal Reserve and the CIA and institute a banking
system of the US Treasury with no interest debt.
Education would be restored with extra fed grants for students
who get degrees for teaching, increase their salaries
to a Nationwide minimum wage of $60K yr full time only.

A just one made up for the people based upon Constitutional
Law and not on corporate bank law. One that works for
the people and not against the people. I would have
at least 5 MSM public opinion polls on every bill before
the legislature body done by internet. And representatives in congress
would be required BY LAW to vote by majority with
the outcome of those polls from their region or district.
You would have to register on the gov website with your
name and SS# to participate so those numbers in the polls
can be validated.

But that's just me

Sort of autonomous individual self-governance?

We are smarter, we respect ethics & bigger frames of reference, because we know it maintains our business, social & ecological domains which our long term interests favor.

It means we don't have to have big, rigid [arbitrary?] edifices. It means we have maximum fluidity, adaptability & are not restricted to any single formulation to be effectively functional.

We are smarter, more cerebral,

but can go instantly total mindless psycho when some idiot starts trying screw things up.

We are going to be amazing.

in my dreams . . . lol

freedom of religion. I do not think I would seperate the church and state thou, I have seen crime sky rocket, and morals in young adults to adolesence plumet. Contracted labor, skills, etc. etc. for a company or whatever, and prob. expand indentured service further to try to clean up the streets.

Nice thread! It makes my head hurt. LOL!

I don't think there will ever be a perfect government - even one that I dream up won't be perfect for everyone. Human Beings are just too opinionated, obstinate, combative and competitive. There will always be something to complain about and people wanting to overthrow.

Of course, if you put me on a secluded deserted island...

Your Perfect Government

Living with people who choose to be nice to each other.

That is all the government that is needed.

Will it be a limited government or a powerful one?

It would be both.

Who will be in charge? An absolute ruler? A group of people? No one at all?

Everyone would be in charge of themselves.

What is your foreign policy? Immigration policy?

If they want to be nice to people, be nice to them. If they don't, be nice to them anyway, but don't allow them to hurt people.

Will your government be deeply involved in your peoples
lives or sit back and only intervene when neccessary?

If you like somebody, and want to be nice to them, and they like you and want to be nice to you...how could it ever be "necessary" for someone else to intervene?

How will you deal with crime?

I don't expect there would be much crime in a society full of people who chose to be nice to each other. However, I would give the same response here as to foreign policy: if people are trying to hurt someone, don't allow that. If somebody were to break into your home and start raping your sister, you'd probably stop them, right? If everyone in a society felt close to each other, they'd stop people from hurting others even if the people being hurt weren't their sister.

Health care? Education?

What does government have to do with these things?

What type of economic system will you have?

This is an entirely different question. My ideal economy could exist with or without the government I've described. And the government I've described could exist with or without the ideal economy.

I would choose an economic system based on abundance. Currency would be without value because it would be trivial for people to have anthing they wanted. There are many ways this could be arrnged, both with or without currently available technology. For example, star-trek style replicators would immediately make currency and trade meaningless. But there are other ways. For example, consider the Amish. If somebody wants a barn, do they pay someone to build it for them? No, they simply start talking to people about how they'd like to build a barn, and get people together to do it. This sort of arrangement is possible when people simply choose to be nice to each other. If you want something, simply build or make it happen yourself or ask someone to help you.

Money is a tool to manipulate people into doing things they don't want to do. Would you go into work every day if they didn't pay you? Of course not. People "work" for others doing things they dislike so they can get money that they can use to get other people to do things that they don't like.

It is a functional system. But it is not one that I prefer.

...but, isn't that exactly how it is? Right now? Even in the scenario I've just described above, wouldn't it still be this way?

But how can you get everyone to cooperate and be nice? You need some sort of system and laws.

But how can you get everyone to cooperate and be nice?

You start by getting rid of this notion of "getting everyone to cooperate." You don't "get" people to cooperate. You don't "compel" them. That's not being nice.

Accept that people will do as they choose. "Law" does not change this.

You need some sort of system and laws.

No I don't. You might. But I don't, and neither do people of like mind.

Law is an illusion. You believe you are safe because of it. You are not.

Read this post again. Very carefully. Consider the implications. Even in the society I described, I still acknowledge that it is a animalistic free-for-all. Beleiving in law is delusion.

What is rule and law?

Let's say you live in Nostradumbass's anarchic free-for-all. And you decide to kill somebody. What happens? Well, the people who care may get together and form a posse to deliver some vengeance, and they'll call it justice.

So now let's say you live in a society of laws and you decide to kill somebody. What happens?

Same thing.

I actually agree with you about law being an illusion and everything else you said but in your post you described an anarchy where everyone was nice to each other. I just don't think everyones going to play fair, there are bound to be some bullys. You don't think you need anything put in place to stop them? Maybe you could require that every citizen owned a gun.

Nosred I dont mean to sound blunt or mean
but I have a question.

What is your purpose for wanting to know
how some of us feel??

Are you a part of a legislative body
who can make reform?

there are bound to be some bullys. You don't think

And what do you propose?

What can possibly be "put in place" to stop them? Does law stop there from being criminals? Does law stop there from being war? Does law stop people from flying planes into buildings?

What purpose does it serve?

Maybe you could require that every citizen owned a gun

If you want to own a gun, own a gun. It will protect you in ways policemen on the streets cannot. And it will never abuse its authority or taser children and grandmothers. But the moment you try to compell people to own guns, you become the bully you seek to protect against.

I just don't think everyones going to play fair,
there are bound to be some bullys.

If someone breaks into my home and tries to murder me, no law in the world will stop him. No number of police cars patrolling the highways will protect me.

Government does not accomplish the goals people expect from it. But it does take money from them in the form of taxes, tell them where they're allowed to go, what they're allowed to do, who they're allowed to trade with and kidnaps, imprisons and executes people who don't obey. Government is an implement of control. It is the tool of bullies and extortionists to delude you into submitting to their will.

If everyone chose to be nice, chose to treat one another honorably, there would be no need for government.

But in a world where people choose not to be nice to each other, government does nothing to change that.

Why have one?

No, I can't make reform. It's just with all the talk on ATS about revolution and the government being corrupt I was curious as to what people thought was a perfect government.
