I apologize if this is foreign ignorance, but why must such information matter? Whatever ones ancestry, if your nation truly values this concept of
equality you seem to favor, is it not then nationalist to ensure a president was born in a certain area? Does your birthplace change anything at all,
or is it mere xenophobia? I do not believe it matters where he is from, one should focus on how he is governing, not where he was born.
Yes, it is foreign ignorance... and I am sincere when I say that I mean that in the gentlest way possible.
The reason it is important is, not only the fact that it states in the U.S. Constitution that one must be a natural born citizen but, more importantly
the tenant behind the clause.
Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:
No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to
the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been
fourteen Years a resident within the United States.
The reason they put that clause in the Constitution is because they were concerned with people holding the highest office in the country having
competing allegiances with other countries because of birth place.
