Iran says its first domestically-built air defense system, which is said to be more powerful than the US-made Hawk missile, is ready to become operational.

Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said Sunday that the anti-aircraft missile, dubbed Mersad (Ambush), features cutting-edge technology that makes it able to “destroy modern aircrafts at low and medium altitudes.”

Mersad is also equipped with sophisticated radar signal processing technology, an advanced launcher, and contains exclusive electronic equipment for guidance and target acquisition.

Interesting, I wonder what kind of increased capability these will provide Iran in the event that Israel gets their way?

I figured the US most likely already has a deterrent to these missile systems. The US tech would be leaps and bounds above that of Iran in any case I would imagine.

Just more fuel for the fire I guess. What are your thoughts ATS?

I think what we see here is under cover S-300 system on its way. Russia cant deliver their own operating systems, but as we know that Russian specialists have been working in country with large numbers - this is possibly the very same system, maybe we can compare it not only to S-300, but even S-400s?

This solves great diplomatic problems which has elevated from S-300 deal for years now. By Iran producing those theim self - there is no international pressure to lift against Russia or China from this.

I see we have a solution now and everyone is keeping their words - But Israel and USA is not in winners side in this at all.

i support iran, but i believe that the USA has weapons we never dreamed of, and we'll probably never know of until maybe another 20 years after the war... when secret weapons expire they get leaked

S-300 or S-400 type of new missiles needs another, new generation radars also - so they have those too... (where in the hell they have get all of this in few weeks?)

Iran to replace Persian Gulf radar

Iranian scientists are planning to develop domestic radars to replace a series of aging Russian-made systems currently deployed in the Persian Gulf.

"The systems will be designed and installed chiefly for defense purposes," said Vice President for Science and Technology, Nasrin Soltankhah, in an interview with Fars News Agency on Saturday.

She added that the new radar systems will also feature capabilities to provide meteorological data for weather forecasting and analysis.

This comes only a day after Iran announced that the country's first indigenous air defense system, dubbed Mersad (Ambush), is ready to become operational.
